Hi Jim,
Welcome to Microsoft community forum. I would appreciate if you could answer the following questions:
- Did you try connecting your computer to another Wi-Fi network or router and check if you face similar issue?
- Are you using any third party antivirus program?
You might experience network or Internet connection issues in Windows for a number of reasons. Some common issues that can cause these problems are:
- A wireless network adapter switch that's not enabled
- WEP, WPA, or WPA2 security key or passphrase issues
- Cables that aren't connected properly
- Corrupted or incompatible drivers
- Missing updates
- Network connection settings
- Hardware or software problems
If you can't connect to a network, there might be a problem with your network adapter, the piece of hardware that makes it possible for your PC to connect to a network. Even though you were facing this issue since you bought the computer. The problem might be with Wireless router. I would suggest you to check if you face similar issue by connecting the computer to another Wi-Fi network or try resting the router.
