How do you resize desktop icons in Windows 8?

The icons on my desktop changed to a smaller size. I do not know what cause them to change size. How do I change their size back to what it was?

I have been unable to find any directions on sizing desktop icons for Windows 8.

hmm, I hold down the Crtl key and use the mouse wheel to resize desktop icons.

The Desktop in Windows 8 works the same way it did in previous versions.

Right click an empty space on the Desktop.

Select the View option.

You shouild see 3 options for changing to Small, Medium, or Large Icons.

Right click an empty space on the Desktop.

Select the View option.

You shouild see 3 options for changing to Small, Medium, or Large Icons.

Hi Ronnie,

Desktop icon appearance took a back seat in Windows 8, as Metro rushed into town. Up to Windows 7 you could casually play with icon width and height and spacing using Control panel / Display settings. Not in windows 8. Eventually, today's desktop zoom-in-out could be simplified/enhanced in a (possible) right-click View / Fit to screen. Until then there is only one administration recourse.

In windows 8, open Regedit and browse to:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Control Panel/Desktop/WindowsMetrics

To help us understand WindowsMetrics, IconSpacing replaces UI Horizontal menu spacing. Also, to increase any desktop display value, increase the absolute value of any numbers in the Regedit column Data. For example, double-click IconSpacing and increase the absolute value from -1125 (default on my system) to say -1130, and this will widen icon spacing by 5px.

! CAUTION 7 months ago, my icons lined up across my desktop almost perfectly, 5 months before that the bottom row on a second display had a weird 200px gap, and today everything is back to almost perfect but with a 10px gap for icons along right border of either 1920-wide display. Microsoft and device manufacturers are constantly adjusting specifications.

For the really desparate, if/when Research and Development Teams reintroduce Preferences UI, amuse yourselves by meditating upon desktop migration of the Windows 8+ UI architecture.
