This is what worked from me.  You do this from within the aptio screen:

followed the steps given in the tomshardware reference above, from db2k9:

"Ok so I figured it out guys, it was kind of silly but here we go.

So this system is sort of a hybrid legacy and EUFI system, and there a few steps I needed to take to get it to recognize devices that aren't the original HDD

First I had to the Security Options of the BIOS and disable "Secure Boot"

[then you reboot, and it comes back to the aptio screen.  So then you do the next step]

After that go to the Boot section of the BIOS and

  • Disable Fastboot
  • Enabled CSM (Compatibility Support Module)

[then you reboot again, and it should get through the aptio piece, if you even see it]

  • This will allow the BIOS to see other bootable drives (For some reason it keep on being disable when I would restart, so that's why I couldn't see my SSD)

[the rest below didn't apply to me, I'm using Win 8.1, and there's only the one SSD]

I have a beautiful ASUS TAICHI, that I picked up as a refurbed return from MicroCenter, and since it had no bloatware or recovery partition on the SSD, I think they either replaced the original or reformatted it.  When it hit the repeating aptio screen, I was ready to take it back, until I found the above.  It worked for me, so give it a try.

See if it works for you

I just had this issue with my ASUS X550CA. Couldn't figure out, PC was only a year old. So I turned upside down, first saw that one of the screws holding the rear cover was missing. I unscrewed the other one, pulled the cover, and much to my amazement, the other 3 screws that normally hold the hard drive in, were non-existent. (4 screws hold it in, 1 was to be screwed into and through the cover into the tab of the hard drive. I found 1 of the screws floating around. Weird thing is, they all had the blue thread lock on the ends of them to prevent this from happening. It has never been serviced or taken apart by anyone. So the hard drive was slightly pulled away from its slot. So I pulled out all the way, inspected to see if all else was good, then replaced it along with screws and now all is good. I wondered how many of this common complaint can be connected to the same issue I had??

you should unscrew the bottom of the device and see if you knocked your hard drive out and connect it back. I had opened my device and my hard drive was disconnected and when i pluged it in it started up normally.
