This is what worked from me.  You do this from within the aptio screen:

followed the steps given in the tomshardware reference above, from db2k9:

"Ok so I figured it out guys, it was kind of silly but here we go.

So this system is sort of a hybrid legacy and EUFI system, and there a few steps I needed to take to get it to recognize devices that aren't the original HDD

First I had to the Security Options of the BIOS and disable "Secure Boot"

[then you reboot, and it comes back to the aptio screen.  So then you do the next step]

After that go to the Boot section of the BIOS and

  • Disable Fastboot
  • Enabled CSM (Compatibility Support Module)

[then you reboot again, and it should get through the aptio piece, if you even see it]

  • This will allow the BIOS to see other bootable drives (For some reason it keep on being disable when I would restart, so that's why I couldn't see my SSD)

[the rest below didn't apply to me, I'm using Win 8.1, and there's only the one SSD]

I have a beautiful ASUS TAICHI, that I picked up as a refurbed return from MicroCenter, and since it had no bloatware or recovery partition on the SSD, I think they either replaced the original or reformatted it.  When it hit the repeating aptio screen, I was ready to take it back, until I found the above.  It worked for me, so give it a try.

See if it works for you

Same problem over here. A brand new Asus K55VD, less than 2 months old.

You can't start in safe mode.

You can't perform a clean boot. No mouse, you can't control anything.

For such a big error, it stays surprisingly quiet at Microsoft.

I am having the same problem except it is with my Samsung laptop. I saw further down the thread someone was saying that they're computer was not responding to anything. My issue was similar. When I opened the task manager the disk was displayed at 100%. Nothing was working properly. This had happened before occasionally but it just went away. When I woke up this morning my laptop was shut off even though it wasn't when I went to sleep. Wheb I turned it on the Samsung screen went straight to the Aptio Setup Utility. When I exit the utility it just comes right back up again. I think because our issues are so similar it's safe to say it isn't an Asus problem. I think the "disk" is still at 100% because my fan is at full power.

I am having the same problem -- I don't see any solutions in the replies that have been made.  Has anyone had success in fixing it themselves or did you have to have it professionally fixed.
