Hi,
Now I install Windows 8 Pro and Windows Movie Maker 2012. When I tried to make a video, the preview screen was black and I could only hear the audio (no video).
When in Windows Movie Maker (Windows 8 Pro) I open project file (.wlmp) which have been created by Windows Movie Maker (Windows 7 Ultimate), the preview screen was black and audio also was absent.
Windows 8 Pro Windows Media Player play movie clips from Panasonic SDR-S150 without problems. When I make photo show from Panasonic SDR-S150 photos with Windows Movie Maker (Windows 8 Pro), there aren’t any problems.
In Windows 7 Ultimate I've been using Windows Movie Maker 2012 to make projects from camcorder Panasonic SDR-S150 videos (Movie clips) and then upload them to DVD (Windows DVD Maker). All works OK.
Additional details
In my SkyDrive folder ( *removed for privacy purposes* ) there are 4 files with following information:
- Jpeg file - Windows 8 Movie Maker open Win7 MovieMaker project - screenshot from program Windows Movie Maker (Windows 8 Pro) when it open project file which was created by Windows 7 Ultimate Windows Movie Maker.
- Jpeg file - Windows 8 Movie Maker open Panasonic SDR-S150 file – screenshot from program Windows Movie Maker (Windows 8 Pro) when I edit video file MOV002.NOD
- Movie Clip (MOD) - MOV002 – Movie Clip from camcorder Panasonic SDR-S150
- Txt file – MOV002-MOD MediaInfo – information about video file MOV002.MOD (from program MediaInfo 0.7.61).
On my computer (Motherboard: MSI Z77A-G43 (System model: MS-7758); Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-3570 CPU @ 3.40GHz; Installed physical memory (RAM): 8 GB; System type: 64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor) two Operating Systems have been installed: first – Windows 7 Ultimate (Version 6.1.7601 Service Pack1 Build 7601) and second - Windows 8 Pro (Version 6.2.9200 Build 9200).
On both OS Windows Movie Maker Version 2012 (Build 16.4.3905.0912) has been installed*.*
From http://downloadcenter.intel.com/ video driver have been updated. System has been checked by DirectX Diagnostic Tool (dxdiag) - in all display tabs has been said – “No problems found”. Intel® HD Graphics: Driver version: 9.17.10.2875.
Please help as I need to fix this as soon as possible!

I found out that MM2012 crashed a lot, even while after restoring to project it crashed again.
Finally after having lots of problems, i've selected al videos when they were finally loaded inside MM and I set the Video stabilization to None and the black screens were gone.
There is the source of all evil I guess :-)

I'm sorry to hear switching and the graphics didn't work either. I don't know how after the latest windows updates 2011 stopped working but now my 2012 does work with the video showing. I see what you tried with the graphics card and that maybe what I did the first time that didn't work, I'm not sure. This is what I tried when it did work and it should make your computer reboot after you do this. Some computers I guess you have to do this in the bios settings but for my computer these were the instructions that I posted on page 7 and that worked for me and also on page 7 there is a post underneath mine that gives a link for help with the switchable graphics also. I will paste here my post from page 7. But preface this to say mine did run to hot and I ended up switching back to regular graphics and 2011 until the video on that stopped working after windows update and tried 2012 with success. So it may be a different problem for you, but just seemed for me at the time it was definitely the switchable graphics problem with 2012 and for whatever reason now it works.

FOUND THE ANSWER for my laptop version anyway. I went and researched about what Windows Live Global Escalations said above on HP site. Found this solution for HP ProBook 4730s Windows 7 Professional 64 bit on the HP forums.....
[There is a solution and it actually is simpler in the probook series than in the non business environment.
I have the probook 4530s and as you mention in the bios you can only enable/disable the discrete graphics card so that is not what you want to do.
You can actually now control this in the catalyst application itself.
Goto catalyst and under the power tab change the switcheable graphics mode to manual (this is the option that others are mentioning you set in the bios)
Now once in manual mode under power again goto the switcheable graphics which tells you the mode you are currently in and lets you manually toggle between the readeon/disscrete and intel/power saving gpu.
My windows index experience went up to 6.5 from 5.7.
Hope this helps others. I prefer this mode as I don;t get bothered with popups and know when I am playing a game or an app that can benefit fom better graphics etc.]
So for me I right clicked on desktop selected Graphic Properties. Selected Preferences at top right corner and checked Advanced View. Selected Power option on side tab. Drop down tab "Switchable Graphics Method". Click on Select the graphics processor manually. Click Apply. I still could not apply driver update but it now works in slide show and movie maker 2012. I have pictures on video. No More Black Screen
(after doing this it then said I had the updated drivers for my graphics card which on this thread I was told it wasn't up to date, but once I switched it back because of it running too hot, then it was back to what looked like drivers not being updated. So my point is if they say your drivers are not up to date and you have tried and your computer manufacturer says you have the latest update already.... then it is most likely your switchable graphics)
JenniferInman, thanks for the assistance. I tried switching the graphics the way you suggested, but it brought me to the same window I was in before, where you browse to the program you want to manually choose graphics for, and then choose the graphics card (either High Performance or Power Saving) for each application. I don't know anything about switchable graphics, but I'm assuming this is telling the computer to use the higher performance Radeon card instead of the Intel Graphics Family one.
It does not restart the computer, so I don't know if we're talking about the same thing. Do you have a Radeon card as well?
Yes I do, I have an AMD Raedon HD 7470M and Intel HD and Windows 7 Professional. I'm so sorry its not fixing the issue and I have no idea why suddenly 2012 version started to work. I feel your pain, there has to be an answer to all the problems people are having. It was a great program in 2011 it updated. The instructions I found for switching graphics were for my hp probook series 4730s. But now I just have them set as normal graphics probably the power saving and mm2012 is working for me and 2011 now has the black screen. Crazy....I hope you have some luck finding the answer for yours
Thanks- if I do fix the problem, I'll post it here so others may benefit from it. It's funny, I have the exact same Radeon card, but with Windows 7 Home on an HP Pavilion dv7 laptop. I uploaded the logs the forum moderators asked for, maybe they'll find an answer.
