Hi,

Now I install Windows 8 Pro and Windows Movie Maker 2012. When I tried to make a video, the preview screen was black and I could only hear the audio (no video).

When in Windows Movie Maker (Windows 8 Pro) I open project file (.wlmp) which have been created by Windows Movie Maker (Windows 7 Ultimate), the preview screen was black and audio also was absent.

Windows 8 Pro Windows Media Player play movie clips from Panasonic SDR-S150 without problems. When I make photo show from Panasonic SDR-S150 photos with Windows Movie Maker (Windows 8 Pro), there aren’t any problems.

In Windows 7 Ultimate I've been using Windows Movie Maker 2012 to make projects from camcorder Panasonic SDR-S150 videos (Movie clips) and then upload them to DVD (Windows DVD Maker). All works OK.

Additional details

In my SkyDrive folder ( *removed for privacy purposes* )  there are 4 files with following information:

-          Txt file – MOV002-MOD MediaInfo – information about video file MOV002.MOD (from program MediaInfo 0.7.61).

On my computer (Motherboard: MSI Z77A-G43 (System model: MS-7758); Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-3570 CPU @ 3.40GHz; Installed physical memory (RAM): 8 GB; System type: 64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor) two Operating Systems have been installed: first – Windows 7 Ultimate (Version 6.1.7601 Service Pack1 Build 7601) and second - Windows 8 Pro (Version 6.2.9200 Build 9200).

On both OS Windows Movie Maker Version 2012 (Build 16.4.3905.0912) has been installed*.*

From http://downloadcenter.intel.com/ video driver have been updated. System has been checked by DirectX Diagnostic Tool (dxdiag) - in all display tabs has been said – “No problems found”. Intel® HD Graphics: Driver version:  9.17.10.2875.

Please help as I need to fix this as soon as possible!

Thanks,

Andrejs

I found out that MM2012 crashed a lot, even while after restoring to project it crashed again.

Finally after having lots of problems, i've selected al videos when they were finally loaded inside MM and I set the Video stabilization to None and the black screens were gone.

There is the source of all evil I guess :-)

Hope this helps anyone

    Hi Cesar_E

Ok I went to the link above and read about it, not really sure how I know about this 9X thing, My laptop is a year and 5 months old so not too ancient yet.  I did try that update, the kb 2741355 but it said it was already on my system.  I will try to check with the intel site on the status of my driver even though windows tells me it is up to date and will try to figure out different settings for the K Lite drivers but otherwise I think I have exhausted every other option.

Sorry Cesar_E I just saw this and left a detailed post just below this.  I did finally see the stabilization only available in Win8.  I'm not sure I'm understanding the part about DirectX9 but I will go read the link further.  If you mean it won't let MM2012 start at all I can start it, but come to think of it I tried to find it in programs or search through start button like I always have with 2011 version and can't ever find it.  So I click on my wlmp file and then it opens in MM2012.  I will check out this link above and hope it explains about graphic cards and this DirectX 9 because I'm not understanding what that is.  And I have updated my Radeon HD 6490M driver I have tried to update Intel it keeps telling me on HP site that the newer version is not for my computer even though it is listed under my computer version.  I have also been to the Intel site and I think I will speak to support there.  It shows an older date then my latest version is but the numbers of the driver is higher than mine is.  So very confusing.  But from device manager it says it is up to date.  But I'm not sure what the graphics card troubleshooting method is?

As for the Yellow warning sign, I do now how to handle those, have had that issue when files are moved or renamed and have found them and fixed easily.  This time though it would be fine no yellow would play through no problem with picture and then when it came to convert to a movie it would stop say files were missing or corrupted and yellow warning signs.  I would then shut it down and bring it back up and all would be fine again no yellow warnings until I would try to convert again to movie.

I will go check the link above and let you know if I have any luck.  Otherwise I will just try to take screen shots of my whole movie in 2012 and go back to 2011 and spend days reduplicating again.  I will just convert in another program all my .mov files to .wmv and hope no more yellow warnings.

    Hello Laura,

Welcome to Microsoft Community Forum. I understand that you're having issues within Movie Maker only showing black when previewing your project. Within this thread, there are multiple troubleshooting steps provided to rectify this issue. Please verify if you've already followed the steps provided by moderator Glenda_A  on June 9, 2013, information by member considerate_guy on April 18, 2013 my posts on December 12, 2012and July 10, 2013.

This is to verify the next steps that we will provide you in case you've already made some changes within the program.

    We'll await for your response.

    Thank you.

    Cesar_E,

I have tried all the steps and none have worked yet.  Updated drivers, fixit for codec, loaded the full pack from K-Lite and uninstalled and reinstalled this dang 2012 version.  And btw the slideshow in Photo Gallery also does not work, turns black.  When I go back to 2011 both work again, picture in Movie Maker and slideshow in Photo Gallery.  Only problem is now my file won't open in MM 2011 so I'm stuck doing it all over again or trying to get this dang picture to work in Movie maker.  I tried to burn the Movie in wmv and it does come out with audio but no video.  And I have loaded other files such as .wmv files which are supposed to be compatible and still the same thing.  But I can play with windows media player just fine.

I have Hp probook S series with Windows 7 professional 64 bit with Intel(R) HD Graphics family and Radeon HD 6490M.  The Intel says theres no update but it seems there should be since 2011 and the Raedon has been updated.

Thank you VictorAco for the K-Lite suggestion, someone told me about this earlier today. I've tried the microsoft fixit and updated graphic card drivers. So I did install K-Lite full pack but unfortunately when it came to all the settings I was lost.  So I chose no acceleration just the software option and its still the same problem no picture.  I have Hp probook S series with Windows 7 professional 64 bit with Intel(R) HD Graphics family and Radeon HD 6490M.  The Intel says theres no update but it seems there should be since 2011 and the Raedon has been updated.  One thing I have noticed that no one has listed here this is not just a problem with Movie Maker 2012 it is also with Photo Gallery which by the way comes in a pack with the movie maker if just downloading the Movie Maker.  Anyone having this issue with Movie Maker 2012 try to open your pictures in Photo Gallery and then click on slideshow.  I don't know if this will be a clue as to what this problem is.  But it tries to load the slideshow and after some effort black screen just like movie maker.  No images at all till you click out of slideshow back to Photo Gallery.  So I will have to try to find out what proper settings are for the Klite full pack if anyone knows I would love the help.   Maybe I'm just tired from three late nights now trying to get my movie finished that I have worked on since July 4th and now since I tried to update to 2012 and then stupidly saved my file and didn't do a Save-As I am now stuck trying to do this in 2012 version or just give up go back to 2011 and start All Over Again.   Microsoft needs to figure this out!!!!!!!!!!!!
