Hi,

Now I install Windows 8 Pro and Windows Movie Maker 2012. When I tried to make a video, the preview screen was black and I could only hear the audio (no video).

When in Windows Movie Maker (Windows 8 Pro) I open project file (.wlmp) which have been created by Windows Movie Maker (Windows 7 Ultimate), the preview screen was black and audio also was absent.

Windows 8 Pro Windows Media Player play movie clips from Panasonic SDR-S150 without problems. When I make photo show from Panasonic SDR-S150 photos with Windows Movie Maker (Windows 8 Pro), there aren’t any problems.

In Windows 7 Ultimate I've been using Windows Movie Maker 2012 to make projects from camcorder Panasonic SDR-S150 videos (Movie clips) and then upload them to DVD (Windows DVD Maker). All works OK.

Additional details

In my SkyDrive folder ( *removed for privacy purposes* )  there are 4 files with following information:

-          Jpeg file - Windows 8 Movie Maker open Win7 MovieMaker project - screenshot from program Windows Movie Maker (Windows 8 Pro) when it open project file which was created by Windows 7 Ultimate Windows Movie Maker.

-          Jpeg file - Windows 8 Movie Maker open Panasonic SDR-S150 file – screenshot from program Windows Movie Maker (Windows 8 Pro) when I edit video file MOV002.NOD

-          Movie Clip (MOD) - MOV002 – Movie Clip from camcorder Panasonic SDR-S150

-          Txt file – MOV002-MOD MediaInfo – information about video file MOV002.MOD (from program MediaInfo 0.7.61).

On my computer (Motherboard: MSI Z77A-G43 (System model: MS-7758); Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-3570 CPU @ 3.40GHz; Installed physical memory (RAM): 8 GB; System type: 64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor) two Operating Systems have been installed: first – Windows 7 Ultimate (Version 6.1.7601 Service Pack1 Build 7601) and second - Windows 8 Pro (Version 6.2.9200 Build 9200).

On both OS Windows Movie Maker Version 2012 (Build 16.4.3905.0912) has been installed*.*

From http://downloadcenter.intel.com/ video driver have been updated. System has been checked by DirectX Diagnostic Tool (dxdiag) - in all display tabs has been said – “No problems found”. Intel® HD Graphics: Driver version:  9.17.10.2875.

Please help as I need to fix this as soon as possible!

Thanks,

Andrejs

P.S. Sorry for the long description, I thought it would be best to give as much info as possible.

I found out that MM2012 crashed a lot, even while after restoring to project it crashed again.

Finally after having lots of problems, i've selected al videos when they were finally loaded inside MM and I set the Video stabilization to None and the black screens were gone.

There is the source of all evil I guess :-)

Hope this helps anyone

Just to clarify:  a project created in the 2011 version can be opened in the later 2012 version.  However, one created in the later version can't be opened in the earlier version.

    Hi crmango,

you may be having the same problem I posted about and solutions I posted back on Pg 7 July 17th of this thread and then again on Pg 11 Oct 22nd of this thread, that may be helpful to you.  Which basically has to do with having the two types of graphic cards or switchable graphics.  But back then MM2012 would not work for me, sound no picture unless I activated switchable graphics which then in turn made my computer run to hot.  I finally went back to MM2011 and it was fine until net framework had an update in windows and now MM2011 no longer worked and I have now switched to the 2012 version so that may help you.  Just know that any files you started in MM2011 (.wlmp) files will not work in 2012 and vice versa.  That part is very frustrating.  They make your older version unworkable but don't bother to make your story board work in the newer version.

Hope this helps or looking back at the pages I mentioned above.  Just know if they keep telling you your driver is not up to date and hp keeps saying you are then you are up to date.... it just has to do with switchable graphics

I, like all the others in this thread, am having the same problems with WLMM having sound but no picture. I'm using WLMM 2011. No picture in the preview pane. I would post a picture below but I can't get the "Add Image" icon above to work- it keeps saying "The connection was reset."

    HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC

Graphics Device 1: Radeon HD 7470M (Driver version: 8.882.2.3000)

Graphics Device 2: Intel HD Graphics Family (Driver version: 8.882.2.3000)

The driver version matches the latest one on HP's website.

    Hello,

Thank you for visiting this thread. I understand that the main screen stays black while the audio is playing. Ensure that your video card drivers are up to date. To determine the version and video card driver date, run the DirectX Diagnostic Tool (dxdiag):

    1. Click on Start button and type “dxdiag” in the Search programs and files box and press Enter key on the keyboard.
    2. Click on the Display tab and you will see the driver details including the driver version.

If your video card driver seems outdated please go to the video card driver manufacturer and see if a newer version is available.

    Example:

    http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

    http://downloadcenter.intel.com/

I also understand that you are looking for the Video Stabilization settings. On versions of Windows (e.g. Windows 7 and earlier) don't support the feature. The feature requires capabilities added into Windows 8. You may refer to the links below for more information.
