Hi,
Now I install Windows 8 Pro and Windows Movie Maker 2012. When I tried to make a video, the preview screen was black and I could only hear the audio (no video).
When in Windows Movie Maker (Windows 8 Pro) I open project file (.wlmp) which have been created by Windows Movie Maker (Windows 7 Ultimate), the preview screen was black and audio also was absent.
Windows 8 Pro Windows Media Player play movie clips from Panasonic SDR-S150 without problems. When I make photo show from Panasonic SDR-S150 photos with Windows Movie Maker (Windows 8 Pro), there aren’t any problems.
In Windows 7 Ultimate I've been using Windows Movie Maker 2012 to make projects from camcorder Panasonic SDR-S150 videos (Movie clips) and then upload them to DVD (Windows DVD Maker). All works OK.
Additional details
In my SkyDrive folder ( *removed for privacy purposes* ) there are 4 files with following information:
- Jpeg file - Windows 8 Movie Maker open Win7 MovieMaker project - screenshot from program Windows Movie Maker (Windows 8 Pro) when it open project file which was created by Windows 7 Ultimate Windows Movie Maker.
- Jpeg file - Windows 8 Movie Maker open Panasonic SDR-S150 file – screenshot from program Windows Movie Maker (Windows 8 Pro) when I edit video file MOV002.NOD
- Movie Clip (MOD) - MOV002 – Movie Clip from camcorder Panasonic SDR-S150
- Txt file – MOV002-MOD MediaInfo – information about video file MOV002.MOD (from program MediaInfo 0.7.61).
On my computer (Motherboard: MSI Z77A-G43 (System model: MS-7758); Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-3570 CPU @ 3.40GHz; Installed physical memory (RAM): 8 GB; System type: 64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor) two Operating Systems have been installed: first – Windows 7 Ultimate (Version 6.1.7601 Service Pack1 Build 7601) and second - Windows 8 Pro (Version 6.2.9200 Build 9200).
On both OS Windows Movie Maker Version 2012 (Build 16.4.3905.0912) has been installed*.*
From http://downloadcenter.intel.com/ video driver have been updated. System has been checked by DirectX Diagnostic Tool (dxdiag) - in all display tabs has been said – “No problems found”. Intel® HD Graphics: Driver version: 9.17.10.2875.
Please help as I need to fix this as soon as possible!

I found out that MM2012 crashed a lot, even while after restoring to project it crashed again.
Finally after having lots of problems, i've selected al videos when they were finally loaded inside MM and I set the Video stabilization to None and the black screens were gone.
There is the source of all evil I guess :-)

FOUND THE ANSWER for my laptop version anyway. I went and researched about what Windows Live Global Escalations said above on HP site. Found this solution for HP ProBook 4730s Windows 7 Professional 64 bit on the HP forums.....
[There is a solution and it actually is simpler in the probook series than in the non business environment.
I have the probook 4530s and as you mention in the bios you can only enable/disable the discrete graphics card so that is not what you want to do.
You can actually now control this in the catalyst application itself.
Goto catalyst and under the power tab change the switcheable graphics mode to manual (this is the option that others are mentioning you set in the bios)
Now once in manual mode under power again goto the switcheable graphics which tells you the mode you are currently in and lets you manually toggle between the readeon/disscrete and intel/power saving gpu.
My windows index experience went up to 6.5 from 5.7.
Hope this helps others. I prefer this mode as I don;t get bothered with popups and know when I am playing a game or an app that can benefit fom better graphics etc.]
So for me I right clicked on desktop selected Graphic Properties. Selected Preferences at top right corner and checked Advanced View. Selected Power option on side tab. Drop down tab "Switchable Graphics Method". Click on Select the graphics processor manually. Click Apply. I still could not apply driver update but it now works in slide show and movie maker 2012. I have pictures on video. No More Black Screen
Thank you for the updates on things I can try, you had great timing. After all day today trying to get this driver update taken care of, I was just getting ready to give up and go back to MM2011. I will research the info with HP further. I did follow steps today I found on an HP website today about the driver issue with switchable graphics. Deleting both Intel and AMD drivers rebooting and tried installing the HP latest intel first and got the same message about not having the minimum requirements for installing. So had to do a few times but third time installed the brand new driver straight from Intel which makes my catylist and AMD crash but the only way so far to make movie maker 2012 work.
So I had to wait for all the files to convert in MM which usually doesn't even happen. Usually It will just load audio but not video in the conversion. So finally got my movie converted to a WMV file so that I can at least use it and until this is figured out can not make any more movies in the 2012 version. Then as soon as I fixed the AMD driver and catylyst control and updated those drivers again with HP drivers. It goes back to the old driver from 2011, I just CAN NOT figure out why it keeps doing that. The instructions said to also reboot into BIOS and check switchable graphics but I found nothing that says this. So will research this with HP and report back if any results.

Please check your machine and see if you'd be allowed to enable Fixed Mode switchable graphics in your system's BIOS settings. This is what usually fixes these "Black Screen" previews in Movie Maker and the no image displayed in Photo Gallery during full screen slideshow. Apparently, we are seeing these cases prevalent with specific models of HP machines (particularly with the DV6 and DV7 models).
Since your machine's model is not of the same one indicated above, this option may not be available for it or may have been setup differently. It would be best to contact HP's technical support group for assistance as there would usually be two essential updates that are needed to be installed in order for you to do this namely: (1) a BIOS update and (2) the latest version of the AMD High Definition Graphics Driver for your machine's GPU.
As you have previously stated, you are unable to install the generic update for your machine's GPU (in most cases the AMD card) and this is because for most laptop machines there would often be OEM (original equipment manufacturer) Proprietary restrictions imposed. Windows Live Essentials 2012 products require that the latest driver versions be installed in the machine in order for it to run with no problems. Should the issue be persistent even after the said updates were successfully installed (both the BIOS and AMD Graphics driver), please gather new log files for this matter so that we could have these be escalated to our product group for further investigation.
