Hi,
Now I install Windows 8 Pro and Windows Movie Maker 2012. When I tried to make a video, the preview screen was black and I could only hear the audio (no video).
When in Windows Movie Maker (Windows 8 Pro) I open project file (.wlmp) which have been created by Windows Movie Maker (Windows 7 Ultimate), the preview screen was black and audio also was absent.
Windows 8 Pro Windows Media Player play movie clips from Panasonic SDR-S150 without problems. When I make photo show from Panasonic SDR-S150 photos with Windows Movie Maker (Windows 8 Pro), there aren’t any problems.
In Windows 7 Ultimate I've been using Windows Movie Maker 2012 to make projects from camcorder Panasonic SDR-S150 videos (Movie clips) and then upload them to DVD (Windows DVD Maker). All works OK.
Additional details
In my SkyDrive folder ( *removed for privacy purposes* ) there are 4 files with following information:
- Jpeg file - Windows 8 Movie Maker open Win7 MovieMaker project - screenshot from program Windows Movie Maker (Windows 8 Pro) when it open project file which was created by Windows 7 Ultimate Windows Movie Maker.
- Jpeg file - Windows 8 Movie Maker open Panasonic SDR-S150 file – screenshot from program Windows Movie Maker (Windows 8 Pro) when I edit video file MOV002.NOD
- Movie Clip (MOD) - MOV002 – Movie Clip from camcorder Panasonic SDR-S150
- Txt file – MOV002-MOD MediaInfo – information about video file MOV002.MOD (from program MediaInfo 0.7.61).
On my computer (Motherboard: MSI Z77A-G43 (System model: MS-7758); Processor: Intel® Core™ i5-3570 CPU @ 3.40GHz; Installed physical memory (RAM): 8 GB; System type: 64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor) two Operating Systems have been installed: first – Windows 7 Ultimate (Version 6.1.7601 Service Pack1 Build 7601) and second - Windows 8 Pro (Version 6.2.9200 Build 9200).
On both OS Windows Movie Maker Version 2012 (Build 16.4.3905.0912) has been installed*.*
From http://downloadcenter.intel.com/ video driver have been updated. System has been checked by DirectX Diagnostic Tool (dxdiag) - in all display tabs has been said – “No problems found”. Intel® HD Graphics: Driver version: 9.17.10.2875.
Please help as I need to fix this as soon as possible!

I found out that MM2012 crashed a lot, even while after restoring to project it crashed again.
Finally after having lots of problems, i've selected al videos when they were finally loaded inside MM and I set the Video stabilization to None and the black screens were gone.
There is the source of all evil I guess :-)

Welcome to Microsoft Community Forum. After reading your post, it seems that you have multiple issues regarding the 2011 and 2012 version of Movie Maker. Since you're now using the 2012 version of the program, we will concentrate on fixing your issue about black screen.
Since you've done some troubleshooting steps to rectify the issue, we would like to verify if you've already done the graphics card troubleshooting method. Note that you cannot start Windows Live Movie Maker 2012 when a graphics card that only supports DirectX 9 is installed on a Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer. As for the video stabilization, note that this feature is only available in Windows 8.
We would also want to inform you that the yellow warning sign means that the program cannot find the files that you've used in creating the project file. Yes, you have mentioned that they're not missing nor moved but, renaming the files will have the same effect of yellow warning signs. To troubleshoot this issue, double click the yellow triangle image. Locate the files and it should populate once Movie Maker finds the files that you've used.

I re downloaded the software package and there was no difference.
I did that already. I mentioned that in my post.
I also mentioned that I was using all Pictures. All Gifs and Jpg. A common format. I can import them, but I can't place them into the timeline.
Now pay attention.

Thanks for participating on this thread. I understand that you want to turn off video stabilization on your video. To do that, you can follow these:
- On your storyboard, highlight the video you want to remove the stabilization.
- Click Edit under Video Tools.
- Click Video stabilization and select None.

I have been working on this problem for two days now and have been checking on all the solutions here and I still have black video with audio. I ran the fixit and it said it disabled some of what looked like slideshow codec but still didn't fix it and and have also checked for video card drivers and said I am current. I'm trying to decide if I just go back to windows essential 2011. I also would love if I could figure out what you are talking about when everyone says turn off video stabilization because maybe this would help me. But as directions say above I have nothing like that on my windows movie maker 2012. I have searched everywhere multiple times and under the video tools tab and there is nothing to do with video stabilization at all. I'm so frustrated.
This all started with a 15 min video I cut down from 4 hours of fourth of July fireworks to just the boom boom boom with music etc. I started this in the 2011 version. Suddenly when I tried to upload it wouldn't convert because it says some video files were missing or corrupted. I have noticed at times issues with this lately so thought maybe fixing codec issues would be the ticket but it doesn't seem to have worked. Soon as I bring computer up again or close the MM 2011 and open again the files would be fine until I tried to make the movie and again it would stop and now I'd have the yellow warning thing on some of the videos. But when I go play the videos in media player they are fine. They are not missing they are not moved. I have used MM many many times and loved it until this problem is now happening. So after checking everything else I thought maybe I need to move up to the 2012 version. So now I have the new problem and that is black picture with only audio. And that's even if I load a wmv file any video file had only sound and images also no picture. And to make matters worse I decided to go back to 2011 version but stupidly clicked save once in the 2012 version. So now it won't even open in 2011 version because it is not compatible and I will have to start this whole project completely over again unless I can fix this issue with no picture but only sound. I have seen so many posts about people having these same problems but have not seen any fixes that actually work as of yet. Can anyone help. I did try to just make the movie thinking well maybe its just not in the preview window but is actually there. Nope its a black video actually with pictures but black on the video part and audio only
And again in windows movie maker 2012 if I click on the video and higlight it on the story board and click on video edit tools ....... there is NO where it says video stabilization of any sort.
