I have an LG slim portable dvd writer and player...DVD's won't play on my asus and I can't use windows media as my default program.

Hi,

I'm thinking you're talking about an actual DVD movie, not a mpg or wmv video files on the disk....

If that is the case, WMP 12 in Win 8 will not play DVD movie disks or files due to licensing reasons.

You're options would be to activate Media Center, or use a 3rd party player....

VLC and Media Player Classic are two popular free programs...

    Hi,

    If you click on the "Play" you should see a screen pop up to select "File", "Disc" , etc...

    Select Disc... If necessary, browse to your DVD drive... it should appear...

    Then select Play...

    You can also click on the Media tab on the top left of the Player and select "Open Disc"... then Play...

    If you play a lot of Movies, you can go to your Auto-Play settings and set VLC to automatically play any movie DVD inserted...

    VLC Media Player won't recognize that there is a DvD inserted into my Lvean usb 2.0 optical removable disk drive. I have updated the drive, and everything, and I can't get to even play a dvd.

    Hi,

    Does this CD\DVD drive appear in Device manager and This PC when it is plugged in ?

    Does it have two USB cables ? A lot of the potable drives draw power from the USB Port, and some ports don't have enough... So two cables are needed...

    I have an HP Envy 360 with Windows 10 and it will not play my LG slim DVD Writer. Can anyone help me with this? The box says its compatible with Windows 10. Thanks,
