There is no email program associated to perform the requested action

When I right-click on a file, in File Explorer, and select Send to > Mail recipient I get a message box saying:

There is no email program associated to perform the requested action. Please install an email program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel

I have done as instructed with no results

This issue may occur if the Outlook registry key is corrupted. When other programs try to use the Outlook Simple MAPI interface, they cannot retrieve the required information from the registry.

You must first remove the corrupted Outlook registry key, and then perform a Detect and Repair operation to have Outlook rebuild the key. To do this, follow these steps:

  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then press ENTER.
  3. In Registry Editor, locate the following subkey in the registry: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Clients\Mail\Microsoft Outlook
  4. Select the subkey, and then press DELETE.
  5. Click Yes.
  6. Quit Registry Editor.
  7. Start Outlook.
  8. On the Help menu, click Office Diagnostics.
  9. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the repair.

    Had same issue after upgrading to Office 2016 Apps x64 from 2013 on Windows 10.  From Program and Features, I just right clicked the app, which for me was: MS Office 365 ProPlus, and clicked Change.  Then from the popup I chose Online Repair.  I didn't need to play with the registry at all.

    After going into regedit and deleting the subkey, please explain to me FROM where to start Outlook. I assume the web but my version of the program HAS NO HELP menu!!!! Also my Outlook program (windows 10) has nothing to the effect of an OFFICE DIAGNOSTICS!!! As usual, Microsoft crew just keep messing things up. Why should be have to go through such trouble? I am veteran of the internet and microsoft software and I have never experience such problems before the new generation of wet behind ears techs came along.

    I did the action but when I get to chose sub-key I have these choses: capabilities ,envelope ,installinfo ,protocols ,shell ...which one ? and then what? Thank-you

    Which one is the sub-key among 1st is REG_SZ ,2. REG_MULTI_SZ, 3 REG_MULTI_SZ
