"application has been blocked from accessing graphics hardware"

I updated the drivers. Even though when I did that I was supposedly installing an earlier version of the drivers, it did fix the problem and now everything runs smoothly

I was having the same problem with my wife's computer, which came with Windows 7 Home.  I originally thought it was a problem with the video card, replaced the Geforce card with a Radeon card, updated to latest drivers, etc etc.  I ended up buying her a different computer and taking over this one.

We got hit by lightning and fried the NIC, so I replaced the motherboard with the same one (except it's Revision 6.0 instead of 5.0), I wiped the hard drive, installed a copy of Windows 8.1 I had, same problem.  Ran the upgrade to Windows 10, same problem.  Updated to all Windows 10 drivers for the motherboard (made sure onboard video was disabled on the new mobo), the vid card, etc, etc.  Same problem.

Out of curiosity, I moved a little 24" Smart TV over to my desk and plugged in HDMI because I was using 2 different older monitors that only supported DVI.  Problem solved, been running it for a day now and haven't had the drivers crash or "application blocked" error a single time.

So try a newer monitor with HDMI if you are still having problems...

I know it is a Windows issue, but with what?, who knows. my experience as a computer technician. I trouble shot my machine for over a year, along with a couple other techs. with the new release of Win7.

I tried every fix on the net.

I replaced every piece of hardware on the machine with something different and more hi end, except memory, it tested fine.

A year into this I ended up with enough components from that machine, I built a new one with the parts, no issues.

I ran Windows Xp and Linux (various versions)on the old bad machine, never had a issue.

Upon building a 3rd machine I ordered some large ram that was not recommended for the motherboard in the bad machine, I wanted to try it in the bad machine, It worked never had a issue for 3 weeks, put in the old RAM, instantly problem.

Even though the old RAM tests fine, and works with all other OS,s.

So I know that it is a Windows issue like you say, but if someone would have told me that replacing what looked like good RAM due to a Windows issue would solve my problem 2 years ago, I would have done it.

It is a Windows problem, and in my case Windows had a problem with a piece of hardware that tested fine, and ran multiple other Operating systems fine, no problems.

TO ANY ONE WITH THIS ERROR, or the error "display adapter/driver has stopped working but has recovered"If you have had this problem for a while and are fed up, I would like to test something hardware wise.

Memory is cheap. try buying some new memory, approved for your mother board, faster than the memory you currently have though. and let us know what happens, try for a couple weeks.

Even though you could run memtest86 and it shows your memory to be ok.

My memory tested fine also.

I rebuilt a entire system twice over with all different hardware to find it was memory, that was approved for my motherboard, and tested fine. but had some issue.

I have seen similar fixes on the net, so please lets give this a try.

I never had this problem on any of my 4 computers (XP, 7, 8.1) until the latest Windows 10 update, which I did to my newest laptop running 8.1. My drivers are all up to date, have 16GB memory and this laptop isn't even a year old yet. It's Windows OS software **** that makes this error, not hardware. I've tried several fixes recommended in other forums on this site, including editing the registry. I started getting this error after fixing (through registry edits) the error that stopped my graphics card from working. <Sigh> Microsoft clearly doesn't care about its customers; their only answer is "update your drivers."
