Hey ive had the same issue and its been in primarily my games and ive run all games in compatibility mode with windows 7 cleared my registry scanned for issues in the control panel looked online extensively and even did a clean boot of windows 8.1 on my pc. This is a SERIOUS ISSUE. And Microsoft tech support could not give me any definitive answer to the problem only a we will try to help you for the small fee of 109 dollars (us) that's crazy and there is no guarantee this issue will even be resolved.

    PC specs:

    Windows 8.1 on a 1tb hdd

    12 gb of gddr3 ram

    450 watt psu

1 msi radeon hd 7770 graphics card with 1gb of gddr5

Amd fx 6100 six core processor 3.3 ghz

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD SOMEONE FIND A SOLUTION HERE also i noticed this was never a issue for me when i was running windows 7 home and its never been a issue on any previous versions of windows and from what ive read online this seems to be a windows 8 issue exclusively this needs to be fixed and fast this is preventing me from playing all my games including battlefield 4 and battlefield 3 which are "amd"optimized also ive looked at all the games i have had a issue with and the graphics card i have is compatible with the games im running it with so theres no issue there and all my hardware is perfectly fine and installed correctly. Im at my wits end here im about to go out and get windows 7 here again or better yet ditch windows altogether and go for linux or the steam os because a pc thats used primarily for gaming and cannot even do that is not much good to me with this error MICROSOFT FIX THIS PLEASE IM ON MY HANDS AND KNEES HERE.

    Hi,

Did you try updating the video card drivers?

I would suggest you to try updating the video card drivers in the computer. You can open the Device Manager and the right click on the video card and select update.

You can also visit the manufacturer's website and check if there are any latest drivers available for your video card model.

You can also try Clean Boot on the computer to check if there are any software conflicts.

    You can refer this link:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135

Do not forget to reset the computer to start as usual after troubleshooting the issue.

Let me know the results in your reply.

Im laughing to myself here man ive literally done all of those steps you have described and had no luck also for kicks i installed linux on my second hdd. Booted into it and played on it for a week with my graphics card drivers (the same ones on windows 8.1 64 bit) installed you know what happened? Not a darn thing i had absolutely no issues playing games on this operating system. And keep in mind this is a free operating system and windows is a multimillion dollar name used by almost every computer out there. Also i have s friend who has the same graphics card as i do, a lower end intel core duo processor and is running on ddr2 still here. Easily said i have a much higher end system then he does (amd fx 6100 six core processor at 3.3 ghz with 12gb of ddr3 and the same radeon hd 7770 same as my friend) so youd think id be able to play my damn games here. But no luck for me man this issue has been plaguing me for like 2 months now.......the biggest difference to my friends rig to mine aside from mine being much newer and more capable then his to play games is his operating system its windows 7. I bought my 7770 because he had such a great experience with it and it runs games for the best value to performance. So i thought to myself well if he can run it on a older version of windows surely i can too? YEAH APPARENTLY NOT!!!!!! It just shows that my friend with a lower end pc but windows 7 and me booting into linux with the same hardware and not having any further issues tells me a few definite things.

    1. my hardware is not a issue aka everything is working properly hardware wise.

And 2. this is not my fault and or AMDs fault in their drivers i rolled back several driver updates to be sure installed the newest beta patch tried that even did a fresh install of windows 8.1 from my recovery disk. SO what ive come to conclude is that this is not AMDs fault and certainly not my fault the fault lies in the windows 8.1 64 bit operating system. I HAVE A 700 dollar paperweight of a pc because of this issue and from just doing a few google searches i know im not alone. IF this was never a issue in previous versions of windows and is not a hardware or driver issue on my part which its not and everything works fine even in a free operating system such as linux that narrows a few things down........All i have to say to windows and its developers is i get it windows takes a while to develop and polish but SERIOUSLY??? COME ON HERE ITS BEEN OUT SINCE OCTOBER OF 2012 ITS NOW APRIL OF 2014. And ive surfed through forums with this issue dating back as far as 2012 so its not like it has been a out of the blue error here. IM INCREDIBLY DISAPPOINTED IN HOW POORLY THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN ADDRESSED AND HOW LITTLE MICROSOFT HAS SEEMED TO CARE. i have a simple request make your operating system work and dont sell me a faulty product............i might just go out and get a mac or something this is so dumb also ive already turned at least a dozen people away from windows 8 and told them to stick with there current OS simply because its not worth all this hassle. And i will continue to do so until someone fixes this ****....My last thought is if you sold me a faulty product i should be refunded or **** just send me a copy of windows 7 so i can get on with my freaking life here.
