"A problem has occurred while trying to open this message."

In the last 24hrs I have been unable to open a new email or reply to anything I have received. When I click on  new message, or try to reply to one I get the following from Live drive " A problem has occurred while trying to open this message. A problem has occurred. Please try again."  I am receiving everything perfectly well and the problem? seems to be in my computer not with the server as it won't even let me open anything let alone send anything. Any answers for this one?  I have uninstalled the software and reinstalled it but to no avail! I have run an AV scan and done some maintainence. Everything else seems to be working fine. This has only happened in the last 24 hours.

Bazza.

    Hi bethcdh,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community!

Let me assist you regarding being unable to delete emails from Windows Live Mail and eventually ending up with the error code 0x800C01552.

Since you have mentioned that you have done all the troubleshooting steps that was provided by the previous moderators, I'll be asking for you to create a new user profile on your computer then try to check if you will still get the same error message. If you are still getting the same error message, we would like to ask for you to send the fiddler trace from your computer for us to further investigate your concern. I've provided the article below on how to get the fiddler trace on your computer.

How to help the Hotmail and Outlook.com support team collect FiddlerCap traces

I've sent you a private message where you can upload the file. To view it, you need to click the notification that states “You have a private reply to this message. Click here to read it on our secure private messages section."

Note: You need to be signed in to the Microsoft Community forum to view the link. Kindly notify us here when the needed information has been provided in the private message area.

We are looking forward to your response.

    Thanks,

    Edmund

I was having the problem with messages not deleting from Windows Live Mail, as described in the first post.  I ran the repair as described and then started getting the x800C01552 error.  I uninstalled, as described, deleted the folders advised, re-installed and am STILL having the problem.  I'm extremely frustrated.  I need my saved emails and my contact list, and while having messages that wouldn't delete was annoying, I'm fairly angry that your 'advice' made the program stop working completely.

    Please help.

    Hi Bryn,

Thank you for participating in this thread. From what I understand, you want to do a clean install of Windows Essentials without losing your emails in Windows Live Mail, is this correct? If yes, then you may follow the steps in the article below on how to backup and restore your files in Windows Live Mail. Usually though, the emails will not get deleted in Windows Live Mail if you do a clean install.

How do I import and export email, contacts, and calendars with Windows Live Mail?

To do a clean install of Windows Essentials, please follow these steps:

    1. Uninstall Windows Essentials.

    1. Delete the following folders:
    • C:\Program Files\Windows Live
    • C:\Program Files\Common Files\Windows Live

Note: If there are more than one Program Files folder upon opening C drive, then double click on Program Files x86 instead.

    3. Reinstall using the online installer found on this link.

Let us know how things turn out.

    Regards.

    Hi Leonard,

I will be glad to assist you with your concern. It's possible that the issue was caused by a corrupted program file in Windows Live Mail client installed in your desktop. Kindly repair Windows Live Mail by following the steps below:

    1. Go to Control Panel.
    2. Under Programs, click Uninstall a Program.
    3. Locate Windows Live Essential 2011 then click Uninstall/Change.
    4. When a window appears, select Repair all Windows Live programs.
    5. Restart your computer after the repair.

If the issue persists after repairing Windows Live Mail, I suggest that you **configure your account** in Windows Live Mail for us to isolate the issue.

Let us know for any results.

    Thank you.
