"A problem has occurred while trying to open this message."

In the last 24hrs I have been unable to open a new email or reply to anything I have received. When I click on  new message, or try to reply to one I get the following from Live drive " A problem has occurred while trying to open this message. A problem has occurred. Please try again."  I am receiving everything perfectly well and the problem? seems to be in my computer not with the server as it won't even let me open anything let alone send anything. Any answers for this one?  I have uninstalled the software and reinstalled it but to no avail! I have run an AV scan and done some maintainence. Everything else seems to be working fine. This has only happened in the last 24 hours.

Bazza.

I was having the problem with messages not deleting from Windows Live Mail, as described in the first post.  I ran the repair as described and then started getting the x800C01552 error.  I uninstalled, as described, deleted the folders advised, re-installed and am STILL having the problem.  I'm extremely frustrated.  I need my saved emails and my contact list, and while having messages that wouldn't delete was annoying, I'm fairly angry that your 'advice' made the program stop working completely.

    Please help.

    Hi Bryn,

Thank you for participating in this thread. From what I understand, you want to do a clean install of Windows Essentials without losing your emails in Windows Live Mail, is this correct? If yes, then you may follow the steps in the article below on how to backup and restore your files in Windows Live Mail. Usually though, the emails will not get deleted in Windows Live Mail if you do a clean install.

How do I import and export email, contacts, and calendars with Windows Live Mail?

To do a clean install of Windows Essentials, please follow these steps:

    1. Uninstall Windows Essentials.

    1. Delete the following folders:
    • C:\Program Files\Windows Live
    • C:\Program Files\Common Files\Windows Live

Note: If there are more than one Program Files folder upon opening C drive, then double click on Program Files x86 instead.

    3. Reinstall using the online installer found on this link.

Let us know how things turn out.

    Regards.

I have experienced the same problem today.

I ran the defrag as advised and ended up with the same error message x800C01552.

Now have now email at all.

Have not been re assured by any of this discussion if I can run additional recommendaations without losing all email altogether.

I have so many saved messages etc and don't want to lose them. I also use Gmail but can't figure out how to import my WLM messages if that is possible. Do you have any suggestions or a fix.

    Please help.
