USB port does not detect cell phone

I have a Samsung Infuse SGH - I997 cell phone.  I have downloaded the software from Samsung with drivers and have installed it on my laptop running Windows 7 SP1.  When I connect the phone to the USB port it charges but Windows does not detect the phone to install the device driver.  I have tried other USB devices and the ports work for each on I tried except for the cell phone.  Is there something I can do so I can download pictures from my cell phone onto my laptop?

    Have you launched Kies when attempting to connect? 

    1. Let's try firmware upgrade -
    2. From your laptop computer, click the desktop icon to launch Kies

    Mini.

    1. On your phone, from the Home screen, tap Settings ➔

    Applications ➔ USB settings ➔ Kies (Firmware update).

    1. Press to return to the Home screen.
    2. Make sure the battery is fully charged and connect your

    phone to the computer using the USB cable.

    The Kies Mini pop-up is displayed on your computer.

    1. From your computer, click the Phone Upgrade button.
    2. If the computer displays a connection dialog box, close it.
    3. Click on the I have read and understood the preceding

    information check box, then click Upgrade.

    The installation process begins.

    1. When the installation process completes, click OK on the

    Result screen.

    The phone reboots and the upgrade screen closes. You can

    now disconnect and use the handset as normal.

    This does not work.  I open Kies Mini, connect my cell phone and select firmware update.  Nothing happens.  The computer does not detect the cell phone.  Therefore, I cannot update the firmware.

    Reboot your laptop and begin tapping F8 key

    Select Safe Mode with Networking

    Retry connecting phone

    Perform clean boot if the above fails

    Under More Information in the document, it tells you how to troubleshoot to determine what's causing the problem.  You'll also find the directions to return the system to Normal Boot.

    Didn't work.  Windows still cannot detect when I connect my Samsung Infuse cell phone to my laptop via a USB connection.  My wife has a Dell laptop running the same OS as my laptop and it detects and connects to my cell phone with no problem.  The same can be said for the desktop computer in my office.  I don't understand why this laptop cannot detect my cell phone.

    Do you have another device you can plug into the laptop to verify if it works or same issue?

    Verify USB Legacy is enabled in Bios

    Use the following steps to enable or disable USB Legacy Support on the computer:

    1. Turn on or restart the computer.
    2. When the first screen displays press F10 repeatedly until the setup screen displays.
    3. Use the Left and Right arrow keys to select the Advanced tab.
    4. Use the Up , Down , keys to select Legacy USB Support and then press Enter .
    5. Use the Up , Down , and Enter keys to select Enabled or Disabled and Enter .
    6. Press F10 to save settings and exit.
    7. Check device to see if it's detected

    If device does not work

    1. Open Device Manager
    2. Plug the phone in and look for Other Devices

    Does this listing appear under USB Root Hub?  Right click and select install/update driver

    1. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
    2. Right click and select Update Drivers
    3. If any downloads were installed, test the USB device to see if the issue persists
    4. If issue persists
    5. Right-click every device under the Universal Serial Bus controllers node, and then click Uninstall to remove them one at a time.
    6. Restart the computer, Windows will reinstall the USB controllers.
    7. Plug in the removable USB storage device, and then test to make sure that the issue is resolved.
