After installation of update KB2670838 Win 7 keeps crashing to blue screen.

I currently have laptop set to automatic download and installation of windows updates. Update KB2670838 causes system crash whenever Internet Explorer Version 9 is running. I restored the laptop to a previous date using system restore and again allowed the update to install again. Getting the same results as previous installation of the update. I uninstalled the update using Add/Remove programs and laptop seems stable.

I have Win 7 Pro 64 bit edition Serv pack 1 on HP DV7 laptop I7 processor and 16GB ram.

And therein lies the rub, my friend.

Allow me to quote the OP in this thread...

IOW, it would appear that Automatic Updates is downloading/installing KB2670838 (at least as long as AU's set to the default Automatic setting).

AU's set to Notify Only here so I was able to hide it before AU offered it.

[PS: Running Fix It 50202 in Aggressive mode will "flush" the Download folder.]

    I have same problem.

    My computer is hp g6-2021tx(video card:amd 7670+intel 4000),that use "windows update" to install KB2670838,and restart after.my notebook is too lag after login.

    Too soon,I try open firefox to surf internet.but is died.

    Used Power button to restart computer.

    Although can login ,that is lag to died and blue screen.

    I went crazy trying to find out why I received the "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA" and the "igdpmd64.sys" error. Eventually found that it was Internet Explorer 9 that was causing the problem. After TONS of lost time trying to find out why my machine kept on crashing, I observed that the Internet Explorer window had a black line between the right slide rule and the edge of that window that would trigger the shutdown if I slided the cursor into that black area inadvertedly. The ways I found to eliminate the problem was to restore Windows to just before the update was downloaded and ALSO by ticking OFF IE9 from the list of Windows applications. It is not funny the amount of time it took to find out a "sort of" a solution and the anguish as to the uncertainty of what could be happening to my machine. Microsoft please check you updates before publishing!! I activated "Google Chrome" for Internet browsing and it is working perfectly.

    Same problem. BSOD after critical update. Stops when uninstalled.

    I have a Laptop :

    HP Pavilion g7, Radeon HD 6470M

    Intel HD graphics Family.

    Thankyou, MS called me and were very helpful. They suggest that being the update is causing an issue they will further investigate and have recommended hiding the update so it does not get installed again and can turn on auto update again!
