After installation of update KB2670838 Win 7 keeps crashing to blue screen.

I currently have laptop set to automatic download and installation of windows updates. Update KB2670838 causes system crash whenever Internet Explorer Version 9 is running. I restored the laptop to a previous date using system restore and again allowed the update to install again. Getting the same results as previous installation of the update. I uninstalled the update using Add/Remove programs and laptop seems stable.

I have Win 7 Pro 64 bit edition Serv pack 1 on HP DV7 laptop I7 processor and 16GB ram.

And therein lies the rub, my friend.

Allow me to quote the OP in this thread...

IOW, it would appear that Automatic Updates is downloading/installing KB2670838 (at least as long as AU's set to the default Automatic setting).

AU's set to Notify Only here so I was able to hide it before AU offered it.

[PS: Running Fix It 50202 in Aggressive mode will "flush" the Download folder.]

    I too face the same issue. I have uninstalled the update now.

    My PC Information: HP Pavilion DV6 Notebook PC

    OS: Windows 7 Home Premium

    8GB RAM

    The blue screen i got mentioned about the file -

    igdpmd64.sys

    PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

    I got the below info of the file from the xml when the system was rebooted.

    -<DRIVER> <FILENAME>igdpmd64.sys</FILENAME> <FILESIZE>12228128</FILESIZE> <CREATIONDATE>01-08-2013 21:17:18</CREATIONDATE> <VERSION>8.15.10.2372</VERSION> <MANUFACTURER>Intel Corporation</MANUFACTURER> <PRODUCTNAME>Intel Graphics Accelerator Drivers for Windows 7(R)</PRODUCTNAME> <GROUP>Video</GROUP> </DRIVER>

    Use AppCrashView and sent you the detailed screenshot to your mail id.

    Should i disable automatic updates now?

    I am getting a BSOD after installing this update too.

    I had updates set to automatic and now I am being forced to turn off my autoupdates. 

    Please fix this Microsoft.

    HP Probook 4730s

    Windows 7 x64

    8gb ram

    2 ghz Intel Core i7

    PMFJI, but I have a very similar situation on an 8GB HP dv6 with Win7 Home Premium 64 (current).

    After KB2670838 installed automatically last night, I got 4 BSOD's (code 50) today while MSIE 9 was running. I uninstalled the hotfix earlier this evening and it has been stable so far. All crashes were shown at ntoskrnl.exe+75c40. BlueScreenView shows ntoskrnl.exe+f2673 as an address in the stack for all 4 BSODs. The last BSOD also shows iaStor.sys+29b07 in the stack. The first 3 only show ntoskrnl.exe (version 6.1.7601.18044, 1/4/2013). iaStor is 1/12/2011 with no version.

    Maybe this info will help both of us.
