This I think is either really strange or normal.
I have windows 8 on my notebook and an Inter Centrino N-2230 wireless adapter.
Recently, all WIFI connections that appear as available have the 'connect automatically' option checked. I uncheck the box, but they automatically get checked again. I am sure that previously, all wifi connections had the box unchecked by default.
However this is NOT the case with the one wifi connection I primarily use, ie my home cable connection. I can uncheck the option for this one and it stays unchecked. Bizarre.
I am a bit concerned that if I use my notebook near an unsecured connection, it will automatically connect to this without my knowing resulting in security concerns.
Any idea if this is an issue, and how to resolve it?

I assume that all of the trouble machines that are automatically connecting are using Intel PROSet Wireless Tools. Simple fix.
Goto the Control Panel.
Type Wireless in the search panel.
If Intel PROSet Wireless Tools is an option click it (if not then you may have another issue)
Under the option Intel Wifi HotSpot Assistant click Settings
Uncheck Automatically Connect to free WiFi Hotspots.
Click Close
Your DONE!
Problem Solved Unless you are not using Intel PROSet Wireless Tools.
I have just (above) summarized the 'non-issue' for you. There is no "problem". It is a feature of Windows 10 (8/8.1, are they still used? :) ) Wi-Fi to function as I have described previously. Microsoft have not addressed the "problem" because for them it is not a "problem", it is simply a matter of people not understanding the function of Windows 10 (8/8.1), in particular in regard to Wi-Fi and the 'auto-connect' functioning.
This is NOT a "problem", it is the functioning of Windows 10 (Wi-Fi).
***NOTE.....the 'auto-connect' option ticked (which keeps re-appearing after being un-ticked) is ONLY re-appearing for 'secured' connections (see that?). NOT for 'un-secured' connections. Meaning...you cannot be 'auto-connected' to an 'open/public/un-secured' hot-spot without specifically looking for and manually ('asking to be') connected to it. (The tick will NOT reappear automatically for those 'un-secured' connections...I repeat!). By the same token, your 'last-used', and still ticked, 'secured' connection WILL do an auto-connect (it assumes you already have the necessary code, as you have just used it!). If that 'last used' 'secured' connection is NOT available it will then pass you down to the NEXT TICKED 'secured' connection (the next one of of the ticks that "came back"). You will then HAVE to manually attempt to connect to that 'secured' connection by using its code. In other words, if you don't have a code for a 'secured' connection (*OTHER THAN your last 'secured' connection), OR specifically manually attempt a connection to a specific 'open/public/un-secured' hot-spot connection, you cannot and will not be 'automatically' connected to ANY connections in your list. Ticked or not! (All this assumes you have initially removed the ticks for all 'open' connections!)

i had this problem way before windows 10 even came out, windows 8 and 8.1. if you go to page one and see how long ago this was posted lol but your right, its not the computer itself but microsoft in general
Has nothing to do with the make of your laptop or desktop strictly an windows 10 os issue. thanks billy boy
