Rogue devices showing up on windows 8 network in file exporer.

just saying why would anyone in America have a phone from Australia trying to connect one day and then a phone from Germany the next day or the next phone that comes up on the network page.. Especially when we don't sell those in Illinois. Are we sure there is no possibility that there is some kind of glitch?

Also if you disable the WCM how does that prevent a phone from still (even if it is just a random thing aka a glitch) from connecting? Doesn'tjust keep it from seeing the devices(thebPC from seeing the random phones?-- again slow and very painful to edit on here )

Ok.... So then how come i only see phones... I never see another PC doing the exact same thing. Or why does windows say possible devices to connect instead of the random devices saying just a MAC address? Why is there not a easily accessible setting to change this? I mean only Android devices pop up, even with our Windows phones (Windows 10 and 8.1) never show up. I also never see anyone's devices that they own show up. I mean yes your phone finds available Wi-Fi but they should bus find the radio signal and not have to try connecting. Now Wi-Fi sense is a thing where it connects to popular wifi but it never connects to ones that require a password unless you have successful signed in. (sorry for the bad grammar, any Microsoft browser on mobile and PC have a pain trying to delete in these boxes... Fix it Microsoft) all I'm saying is that it seems really dumb for this "feature" (windows connect now) makes phones try to connect when they might not be owned by me.

First, phones, especially Android Devices, are the devices that continously send out packets.  Second, computers with WiFi, that are already connected, are generally stationary, so they have no regular need to be doing continuous scans.  Third, Android devices are defaulted to do this, while Windows and I believe iOS phones are defaulted not to do this.  Fourth, generic, or non-major brand Android Phones/Devices often times show up by the countries Manufacturer names when check by MAC address, rather than the Phone ID, example, many BLU devices come up by their CHIP ID, which often times is from China, Japan, Australia, and other places over America, even though device itself is in fact an American one.

Finally no one is fixing this, because it is not an issue for everyone;  many of us like the fact it shows up this way, so we can have a double way of checking to ensure which devices are AND are not on our network, but COULD be.  If Microsoft has not made any changes in this since 2013, in Windows 8, and we are not in 2016 in Windows 10 and I might add the last Windows, and this FEATURE still exists, then don't hold your breath on them changing it now for the few who do not like it.  Six pages of posts since 2013 certainly does not constitute a mass request for the disabling of this feature.

Ok then we know now that Microsoft is lazy. I mean 8.1 had it where if you forced log off your user while using the modern version of snap with your desktop it would move your icons to one side of the screen. Don't think that was ever fixed due to the making of windows 10. Although yeah they will not fix it. (probably not) it just feels weird to see that on 8.1 and the most secure version of windows (W10) and have it still happen. Yes I know BLU phones are sold in America also. I was saying how some of these phones that do pop up are not sold anywhere around il.

i got a fix for phone showing in windows 8.1 before you check your network it is phone it showing in Network  go control panel then Administrative tool then services then look for  windows connect now right click on it  go to Properties then startup select disabled and click on apply then stop and ok and see your network you will not see a phone 

This might be an old thread, and for a different version of windows, but this solution still helped.  I was having the same issues, with a rogue device showing up on my network, I have set my router and firewall setting to paranoid levels, disabling SSID broadcast, filtering by MAC, only allowing certain devices connect,  reset my passwords for router log in and WiFi passwords to ridiculously length random keys including special characters, and a rogue device still kept showing up on my network.  I'm Running Win10 Home, not 8.1 but the problems described here seems to have carried over to 10 from 8.1.  this seems to have made the device disappear from my network screen so far, the device never did show up in any of my routers table, but only on my laptop, no assigned IP, or any other identifiable information, other than a MAC address, and i made sure to block that IP when i was resetting my router and firewall settings, only to have it pop back up again.  I am hoping that this solution has truly fixed the issue and has not just hidden it, needless to say i was/am feeling uncomfortable wondering if my network has been actually compromised.  I've seen a screen shot posted in this tread which looks strikingly like the rogue device that's been popping up on my network, just with a different MAC, and the type of device.  But for those having this same issue, it should definitely look familiar.   I'll post an update later if it seems that this doesn't fully fix the issue and only hides it.  It has been about an hour since i did this, and the device hasn't popped back up again, so, just maybe this will work, I'll keep fishing around online though for more info on the subject, does anyone have any interesting suggestions of where to continue looking??
