Rogue devices showing up on windows 8 network in file exporer.

Hi everyone,

When I connect to my wireless network (very secure and complex WPA2 password), I go to File Explorer and the click on the "Network" at the bottom left of the window.  There continues to be a wireless device or phone that shows detected on the network.  I have seen three different devices and mac addresses since logging on this morning.  I have also checked the router and there is no record of these mac id's or devices on the router.  Where would these be coming from?  This doesn't show on my Windows 7 machines.  And also, I do not own any of these phones that are appearing on the network.  Any help would be appreciated.

    I've got the same problem, and I understand how it could be nothing.  However I am a bit unsure about where the connection is being made \ requested.  I've reset the router to factory settings, changed passwords, now use MAC filtering and I still get the phones appearing in explorer.  They have never appeared as connected in my router. 

    The bit I don't understand is where the connection is being requested, is it directly with my wifi laptop, or with my router?  Why doesn't my phone appear in explorer?  why doesn't my friends phone appear when we test it (with or without correct password)?

    Nope. They shouldn't. We were worried over nothing. Nothing at all.

    Edit to clarify: What they should do is explain to the scared people in this thread why the neighbor's devices show up in the network and how it's completely benign (harmless.) Maybe even a blue question mark in network view we can click on to read a help article on the relevant networking concepts (pertaining to this issue.)

    Yes but on the properties of the device in windows explorer it only shows a Mac address, but if you click on it it shows a ip addresses in the browser I'm using... Brand new router also so.. Please help

    Look at the Properties image on Page 3, this devices should only show you a MAC address. If they have an IP assigned, probably they are connected to your network.
