I would like to add to what Ganesh Achar B has said here....
For anyone wanting the Windows Live Mail product vs. the simple mail that comes out of the box then it is pretty simple once you know what to do.
Allow me to walk you through the steps.
- go to the link that is provided above.
Windows Live Mail.

install the Windows Essentials 2012 package. All the products are great so install them and use them as needed.
After the install is completed you will have some prompt windows. I closed the ones that did not apply to my current needs. The computer
took me back to the desktop
- http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-live/essentials-other-programsgo to the start windows icon, click it and get to apps. At this point you will still see the original mail app on the screen. Ignore that and go to APPS (more apps or the arrow down or search apps)...
There you will see a list of apps and the new one will be there for WINDOWS LIVE MAIL. It will say new on it. click on it and setup your email accounts.
- go to your start button, look at the apps... right click on the mail to remove that one that came with the windows8 and right click on the windows live mail (in the more apps section) and pin it to your taskbar and pin to start.
now you are ready and can find the new email softare
