Install Windows live mail on Windows 8.

Thanks for the information on windows live mail but can u tell me how to delete windows essentials after getting windows live mail downloaded.  I have a new lap top running windows 8.1 and I am not very computer save.

Joe, the thing to do is when installing Windows Essential 2012 on your Windows 8.1 computer, there is an initial screen that asks you whether you want to install all, or do you want to select what parts of Essential 2012 you want. If you select the option to "select what to install", then you will be given a screen where you will have all the options to install: Live Mail, Writer and One Drive.  Just de-select Writer and One Drive and then only Live Mail will be installed. If you installed all three of the options then leaving them on your computer isn't going to hurt and you might one day end up needing One Drive.

But assuming you did install then the next step is to go to the "Start" screen (AKA Metro interface) and go to the "Search" screen and type in a search for "Windows Live Mail" and it will be listed. Just right click on it and select to "Pin to Taskbar" and "Pin to Start". Now you will find it in the Destop Taskbar ready for use and you will find it on the "Start" screen ready for use. But it will be way over to the right on the "Start" screen so you might want to drag it over to the left to a more visible location on the "Start" screen.

I didn't have to delete the Windows Mail App that originally comes with Window 8 and 8.1. I don't use that App but I could see it comes in handy on a small tablet where you have to use fingers to select options.

Of course he is, probably because mail app is a lousy POS excuse for a mail app that doesn't even work with something as ubiquitous as POP.  Most users haven't a clue what this is, much less how to get around it. More proof that MS hates its customers and enjoys having them all by the balls.  Completely unacceptable (and it helps me, because all of Microsoft's looneys make me lots of money because I fix their idiocy for them). This would be like manufacturing a car that doesn't take fuel from Exxon stations, or having the US Postal service not accept standard envelope sizes.

I think the confusion from your question arises from your use of the term "Essentials". Windows Essentials is the suite of downloads you download to "add" Windows Live Mail to your computer. It also downloads MovieMaker, Writer and some other software. But in the download process you are given the option to select only the programs you want. If you do have Windows Essential loaded on your laptop, then all you have to do is go to window below your Start Screen, find the Place where your Windows Live Mail is listed and then pin it to desktop and to Start Screen. Or you can use the search charm for "Live Mail" and go there to pin to desktop and Start Screen.

I hate the mail program on my new laptop, Windows 8.  How can I change the email program to Windows Live Mail as I use with Windows 7?
