Original title: windows mail on W8 to windows live mail?

I hate the mail program on my new laptop, Windows 8.  How can I change the email program to Windows Live Mail as I use with Windows 7?

Hi B Looney,

Thank you for your reply.

  1. Are you referring to mail app in Windows 8?
  2. Are you trying to use Windows Live mail instead of mail app?

Windows Live Mail.

Hope this helps.

I did not realize that I was so computer illiterate.  What do I have?  I have to go to the "mail app" to get to my email.  That's the only way I know how.  I don't understand... what do you mean, the "Essential program"?   On windows * the only apps I use are the mail and calculator.  I have put Internet Explorer and Firefox on the desktop, and my school/home business version of Office on the start bar, so I rarely use the "start page" on Windows 8 except at the beginning.  Would you take me by the hand and walk me through?   Sorry :-(

I found Windows Live Mail on the internet, downloaded to my laptop then deleted the Essential program.  Much better!  I didn't find any valid help from MS, as well.

I have a new desktop that came with Windows 8 - which I HATE.  I use Windows Mail that "loads up" from my ISP.  I do not know the difference to which you are referring...mail app or Windows Live.  On my Windows 7 it was Windows Live, I believe.  Now...is there any other way to get to my mail without clicking on the mail app?   But my questions are:  How can I add to or manage my contacts list in email? and How can I sort my inbox (or other folders either) by sender, then change back to date received?  Any help is appreciated.  Microsoft people were NOT helpful and had attitude!

    Thank you.
