Original title: windows mail on W8 to windows live mail?

I hate the mail program on my new laptop, Windows 8.  How can I change the email program to Windows Live Mail as I use with Windows 7?

Hi B Looney,

Thank you for your reply.

  1. Are you referring to mail app in Windows 8?
  2. Are you trying to use Windows Live mail instead of mail app?

Windows Live Mail.

Hope this helps.

It has been such a long time since I changed the email program that I don't remember the details.  It couldn't be too difficult or I couldn't have done it!  When you open the desktop, do you see the recently downloaded Windows Live Mail 2011 as an option?  This is not on the first screen with all the colored apps on it.  After you locate the recently downloaded program, you can delete the old one.  I'll review my setup this morning and see if I have overlooked anything.

it said it "finished", and to "restart now".  I did that but my email came up the same way.  All I want to know is how to manage my contacts list, add/delete/edit; and how can I sort my email by sender or then back to by date?  Can you help me?  Thanks for trying.  I'm just not tech savvy.

Open the Microsoft web page and add this to the search box...Windows Live Mail 2011.

It should open to this page   http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=29224

Download the program.  Then delete the Essentials program from your computer.  I found the Windows Essential program very hard to read and confusing to find full editing features, not to mention the appearance of the whole email program.  Good luck with your download.

I can not find where/how to install windows live mail, only windows live/essentials.   If my mail app IS Essentials, why do I need to download it again?  How can I get back to my email I had on Windows Mail on Windows 7?
