KB2821895 Windows 8 x64 Update 06.11.2013 problem

After this update “sfc /scannow” gets stuck at 100% for about 6-7 minutes, and afterwards reports that there are corrupted files that it cannot fix and asks for reboot.

The situation with “sfc/scannow” repeats after restart. I checked it with three different machines. There are a lot of errors in CBS.log file.

We’re aware of an issue impacting some Windows 8 customers trying to run the sfc /scannow command after installing KB2821895, where customers using the System File Checker receive an error message that there are corrupt files and that the system requires a restart to repair the files. 

To work around this issue:

·         Open an elevated command window

·         Run the command dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth, and wait for this command to complete.

·         Run the sfc /scannow command again until the command completes and reports that there is no corruption. If you still get an error that there is corruption, you should contact technical support for further assistance as your system may have actual corruption.

    After running dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth, I shutdown and rebooted my system then attempted to run sfc /scannow only to have it report that pending updates required a restart.

    I found the C:\Windows\Winsxs\pending.xml file and noted that it was stacked with many updates that had not been applied. 

    Finally, instead of a shutdown, I issued a restart.  The pending updates were then applied.  I don't know if this is isolated to my system but it could be a problem for others if they didn't realize that was required.

    Question:  What do I do about KB2821895?  Do I leave it where it is or uninstall it?

    Recently did a system restore on an Acer hybrid tablet from Acer system disks (3). 

    Then proceeded to update Windows 8 with all available important updates except 2821895.

    Ran sft /scannow now, which completed with no integrity violations.

    Then installed only 2821895.

    after install, ran sfc /scannow - had corrupt files that could not be repaired. Took about

    15 minutes at 100 percent before got report.

    restarted,

    ran DISM /online /clean-upimage /restorehealth - took about 10 minutes to run. said it completed

    successfully.

    restarted.

    ran sfc /scannow - reported no integrity violations.

    saved CBS and CBS persistence logs and DISM log, about 90 megabytes combined.

    So far, system running well. BUT, join other users in urging MS to investigate problems

    created by this update!!!

    ARE THERE ANY ANSWERS AS TO WHY THIS UPDATE IS CAUSING PROBLEMS FOR USERS???

    sorry, that's:

    DISM /online /cleanup-image /restore health

    my system restore and update was done on July 20, 2013. So I believe

    it is still a problem for some Windows 8 users.

    also wiped out total update history on MS update. Can only find

    installed updates through Control Panel history under programs and

    features I believe it is.
