KB2821895 Windows 8 x64 Update 06.11.2013 problem

After this update “sfc /scannow” gets stuck at 100% for about 6-7 minutes, and afterwards reports that there are corrupted files that it cannot fix and asks for reboot.

The situation with “sfc/scannow” repeats after restart. I checked it with three different machines. There are a lot of errors in CBS.log file.

We’re aware of an issue impacting some Windows 8 customers trying to run the sfc /scannow command after installing KB2821895, where customers using the System File Checker receive an error message that there are corrupt files and that the system requires a restart to repair the files.

To work around this issue:

· Open an elevated command window

· Run the command dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth, and wait for this command to complete.

· Run the sfc /scannow command again until the command completes and reports that there is no corruption. If you still get an error that there is corruption, you should contact technical support for further assistance as your system may have actual corruption.

Could you reboot your machine, and then try the DISM command again?

Damit S, I did full system restore from Acer-supplied disks on the 16th of June and have been

restoring system, including all Acer W510 updates, drivers, BiOS, firmware, and one application

I believe the Live Updater since the 16th system restore.

Also updated with all Windows 8 important updates except 2821895

I have snipping tools shots of clean scannows (no integrity violations) on the 16th, 17th, 18th, and 19th.

Got rid of a lot of the loaded Microsoft Store apps, like games, music, Bing search, Bing weather, etc., etc. pretty much based on size, and added in numbers of my own MS Store picks. Still got clean sfc scannows.

So with all that done, want to see if it passes

DISM /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

What the heck? What could it hurt?

Okay, will try and will save CBS log if any.

Just remember I HAVE NOT installed 2821895. It's still hidden in update.

Got the same results as you did I think

6-21 snipping tool shot and CBS and DISM logs are now at this link, too:

Both commands completed. Scanhealth took about 4 minutes and found

no store corruption. Restorehealth command took about 10 minutes (total 32GB SSD

about 20GB occupied) and says it successfully repaired corruption.

So where are we now?

Obviously the 2821895 update caused some problems, at least for my Acer W510 tablet.

Not installing this update has left me with a clean or at least repairable system.

Is there any chance, Microsoft, that I will be able to use Windows 8 because its footprint

can be successfully reduced for a 32 GB mobile device, or at least this Acer W510?

That's still my question. You sold me Acer's device and the keyboard dock through your

MS Store. Hope I get to use it. Purchased tablet in November 2012 and keyboard dock in June

2013 just before patch Tuesday. Would like to continue forays to Starbucks for news, books,

and other computer activities. Thanks.
