HIGH disk usage Windows 8 Pro

It's been about 4 days since I've had this issue. My computer was running really slow, so I checked the Task Manager and saw that a "System" process was running under the name "ntoskrnl.exe". I thought it was a virus or a rootkit. I ran Windows Defender and nothing was detected. I just did a clean install of my operating system last night, and I'm checking my processes and the same issue is persisting.

I have an HP Pavilion m7 1015-dx.

If the problem is persisting like I think it is, can this be a hardware issue?

    I have had my PC for a year or so now, and use CCleaner once, if not twice a week, yet I still get this issue.

    I have a pretty nice Desktop PC running Windows 8.1 and my PC will almost lockdown for 5-10 minutes while ntokrnl.exe is hogging memory. This happens multiple time per day, maybe once or twice over the course of 2 hours of working.

    This is EXTREMELY abnoxious, and I didn't pay to have a nice PC and windows 8 to get slowed down by a bug in windows eight.

    Sorry went on a rant for a second. Anyways, just wanted to tell you that using CCleaner to clear your registry only helps me for about 4-5 hours working. Then the problems arrouses again.

    Note: Ignore spelling or gramarricle issue. I am extremely dyslexic (not using it as an excuse) I am pretty good when it comes to typing, but go easy on me.

    wasn't sure what went wrong with my computer

    like many others out there, i've done all the preliminary checks and scans for malware or viruses. 

    and i chanced upon users, mentioning to change the power options.

    It didn't work for me in the first place of switching it from balanced to performance. As mine it is always on performance.

    Solution

    So i did a check on all the components and i came upon this settings named minimum proccessor %. In awe, it was at 100% minimum and 100% maximum.

    Step 1 :Hit the Change Plan Settings*

    Step 2 : Press Change Advanced Power Settings

    Step 3 :Under Processor Power Manageme nt

    Look into Minimum Processor State

    Im not exactly a computer expert. but its logical that, when minimum disk and maximum is of the same figure. it overclocks.

    i've amended it to 20-30% for minimum and the disk usage problem is cured after a trial run of gaming - heroes of newerth.

    Ken,

    You are everything that is wrong with these forums. You obviously are not remotely aware of the problem described, therefore you should not waste space on this forum dishonoring Microsoft MVPs that add value to the community. I hope someone at Microsoft has the good sense to ensure that your MVP status is no longer renewed.
