HIGH disk usage Windows 8 Pro

It's been about 4 days since I've had this issue. My computer was running really slow, so I checked the Task Manager and saw that a "System" process was running under the name "ntoskrnl.exe". I thought it was a virus or a rootkit. I ran Windows Defender and nothing was detected. I just did a clean install of my operating system last night, and I'm checking my processes and the same issue is persisting.

I have an HP Pavilion m7 1015-dx.

If the problem is persisting like I think it is, can this be a hardware issue?

    Hi Folks,

    I found that removing Dell System Detect software seems to resolve this issue (at least on my super Dell).

    I always recommend removing the manufacturers software anyway, just to reduce used system resources.

    try to disable services :  TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper , Superfetch , Offline Files .

    I have seen a little improvement after i have disable this services.

    I have windows 8.1 pro x86 .....

    Mr. Blake,

    You really need to learn how to act as an MVP since 2003!

    It is slow means it is slow, if you like to know it is freezing too! Programs go "Not responding" for few seconds!

    System process in task manager shows 4~6MB/s disk access! It points to "ntoskrnl.exe" which is a MS system component (I already know that "NT OS Kernel")

    Is it usual for a system component to Read/Write on disk % Mega Byte per Second (Just explaining in clearly, no offense)?

    I did the same as OP (Virus scan) to make sure my NT OS Kernel is not infected (I did it with ESET Nod32) which wasn't.

    I have a little knowledge of computers, I can't explain it better, what you expect from someone who thinks his hardware is not running well? Mine is, I checked this on two identical computer that I bought few days ago, both of them showing this symptoms after updating via windows update.

    There are at least 11 people in here having same problem and 7 of them think you are not polite and not adding value or giving solution at all.

    By the way, Memory scan as suggested by Nuccii returned with no error on both computers.

    " Okay so, the same thing is happening to me, but i found out that when i open the dvd drive and close it, it stops blinking for a while. But then it starts doing it again! So i found a temponary workaround, just disable your dvd drive in the Device Manager and it will stop (at least it did for me and i have an acer laptop aswell).

    yeah, i got the same problem

    i dont know how to fix,

    this  bug real suck,

    im playing League of Legends, my fps going down like sh!t , under 10 fps, and keep freezing,

    damn 100% disk
