the MTP USB Device driver doesn't install. I cannot connect external devices such as the Samsung Galaxy. I tried multiple uninstall and re-install, no solution

i tried many of the ways suggested in many forums, nothing worked. actually when i forst connected te Galaxy it worked for a few days, then it stopped. My company ha installed on my PC System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection; however it was there even when i was able to connect.  i tird also the ipad and i get the same error.

the solution offered to my previous request on the same issue by Rob Thomas596 strictly refers to Apple products and i can't use it for the Galaxy

Run command prompt as administrator and run the following command:

net localgroup Administrators local service /add

That is what fixed my problem after searching everywhere

    Do you know how far you went back with your restore? I Uninstalled all the Windows and Security updates back to 14-Feb-13, rebooted, and still the MTP USB Device fails. 

    What's so annoying about this is it used to work fine (about 2 months ago), so I think it's likely an Windows update has broken the MTP USB Device driver's ability to install.  While I doubt it was intentional, it only affects Android devices, so I suspect it will be a very low priority to get it fixed, if it's even acknowledged as a bug.  Drivers are tricky too, so it could be a bug in the Samsung driver that only shows up with the OS changes.

    For anyone else, I'm using the latest driver via Kies, which has worked in the past. The Samsung Android USB Composite device shows v5.30.14.0, dated 11/30/2012.  Fails with both Galaxy S, Galaxy S III.

    Follow this link http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=19153 install the media transfer protocol drivers reboot.

    Now the device detection may fail but here is the trick, while the phones plugged in go settings / usb pc connection / change to camera PTP let those drivers install / Then it will open the storage from the phone / now switch it back to MTP / This should re configure the driver correctly.

    Hi,,

    I want to thank you for support you provided here, I had the same problem as user"carlocal1207" (the MTP USB Device driver). and i searched to see a solution on Google. and i found your forum.

    I follow the steps of uninstalling and installing the USB controllers and restarted my windows 7 computer. and my phone is also Samsung galaxy. and now it is recognized and works fine. I don't know what user "carlocal207 problem is ..may be he has an issue with his phone. but I just want to give you credit for all the answer you provided and please continue to do so.
