Windows 8 "refresh" removed applications

 Totally agree. I need to try refreshing win8 too (Win7 Ult - Win8 Pro upgrade) since tiles stopped working and many other things went bad after no more than 48h use. Now I lost many months of installed programs, also lot of configured stuff I used to work from home with University servers, all gone. And the "Removed Applications" list sounds like a joke, how the **** should I use this damn list? Does really not exist a way to "restore" this detrimental and useless refresh operation I did??????????

 

Seriously, I've been using Windows from 90ies to seven edition, and I have never seen such an underestimated dangerous and misleading function like "system refresh".

You're stuck unless you had restore points enabled - I didn't have then, I have now!

I was supposed to have restore points from Win7 installation. Sadly after upgrading to Win8 it seems they are gone... Anyway, all my precious software and configs are lost now, and I still think Win8 could be a good think.

Going to make a fresh new installation on a faster HDD and looking to re-install one-by-one all the stuff I need. Since I bought the Win8 Pro upgrade I think I'm going to re-install win7 and then re-upgrade it with win8 code, hope it's going to work.

The same thing happened to me. This was immediately after initial install when Win 8 ran into a problem. Wouldn't it have made since the install procedure would create a restore point at the end of the install? Especially when it said it would not affect my files and settings. Since when does "System Refresh" imply the removal of all of the apps you have downloaded and installed including MS office. With all of the experience and effort put into this and previous MS operating systems there is no excuse for such shoddy and misleading wording and total lack of warning of the true affect of running a System Refresh. The effort, the time, the expense, of rebuilding this due to MS incompetence is inexcusable.

I am also having this problem, and so I have no sound until I figure out how to do it.

The wording on the refresh feature needs to give a clear warning that you will lose your programs, all the saved variables for those programs, and possibly even your installed hardware like the sound card.
