Windows 8 "refresh" removed applications

Why did Windows 8 "Refresh" remove about 30 applcations from my PC?  Outlook is gone, as is Excel and Word.  I did a upgrade from 7 on one of my PC's and the new system had not even been operating long enough to create a "Restore" point.

Hi Rodgerr,

I can imagine how frustrating it could be when most of the applications have been removed on the computer.

Since, you have refreshed the PC; all the applications installed will be removed.

The apps that came with your PC or you installed from Windows Store will be reinstalled, but any apps you installed from other websites and DVDs will be removed. You'll find a list of the removed apps on your desktop after refreshing your PC.

I would recommend you to reinstall all the applications on windows 8 to work.

    Hi Eric. I disagree. It is not difficult to upgrade an OS without nuking all your applications. Any Linux distro does it all the time. The mind boggles that a huge for-cost organisation like MS is unable to perform this trick. What a sad sad monoplist joke.

    And never mind chome and firefox and such. Easy to replace. But all the (e.g. Samsung, Intel) software that came preinstalled with the notebook. Even Norton 360 is removed leaving the PC wide open to be raped. Miracle that nobody sued MS over this yet. This is destructive, value destroying utterly unprofessional. And no, not really necessary. What a shabby product.

    You are right. So to be constructive.

    Just ditch the ****, and install Linux Ubuntu or something like that. Especially if you are not running any applications that will ONLY run under MS Windows. And if you do run applications that will only run in Microsoft-land, consider installing Ubuntu, and then run a Windows7 under VMWare or VirtualBox as a virtual machine.

    Linux will upgrade your OS if it needs to, and will also keep all your installed applications in sync and up-to date. It will NEVER remove anything without clearly stating so and giving a very clear warning.

    Hi to all of you. Recognize lot of frustration but after some getting used to win8 quite happy.

    After a refresh (note: all Windows store apps also disappeared!) still not solving problems, took the plunge and did a reset.

    Quite prepared to start again and reinstall programs (sorry - apps...) Did my own back-ups.

    However, after working perfectly fine before, cannot now reinstall MS Office at all - keep getting the message that OS is not configured to let me install the programs. Suggest compatibility check but continues to run foul with this message. Also cannot reinstall printer drivers.

    Searched high and low but cannot find any solution to this anywhere. Anyone able to help here?

    (Maybe upgrading to win8.1 may fix some issues but am very reluctant....)

    I have refreshed and it has deleted my Kaspersky security is there anyway I can get it back, I don't know much about computers thanks
