Windows 8 "refresh" removed applications

Why did Windows 8 "Refresh" remove about 30 applcations from my PC?  Outlook is gone, as is Excel and Word.  I did a upgrade from 7 on one of my PC's and the new system had not even been operating long enough to create a "Restore" point.

Hi Rodgerr,

I can imagine how frustrating it could be when most of the applications have been removed on the computer.

Since, you have refreshed the PC; all the applications installed will be removed.

The apps that came with your PC or you installed from Windows Store will be reinstalled, but any apps you installed from other websites and DVDs will be removed. You'll find a list of the removed apps on your desktop after refreshing your PC.

I would recommend you to reinstall all the applications on windows 8 to work.

      Well it removed a whole bunch of apps, including MS Outlook.  What a freakin mess! 

     

    So you're another one who doesn't READ information?

    What do you think this means?

    Refresh your PC

    Heres what will happen

    . Your files and personalization settings won't change.

    . Your PC settings will be changed back to their defaults

    . Apps from Windows Store will be kept

    . Apps you installed from discs or websites will be removed.

    . A list of removed apps will be saved on your desktop.

      I spend more time switching between class and Win8.   

    Why would you do that? Pin all your programs you use onto the Taskbar. I almost NEVER use the Modern GUI apart from playing....

    Same thing just happened to me.  I was trying to install AT&T Communication manager and kept getting an error code.   Looking up the error code I found a website that suggested a Windows 8 refresh while insisting it would not remove any installed app.   Well it removed a whole bunch of apps, including MS Outlook.  What a freakin mess! 

    Windows 8 is a bad design, especially for people like me who prefer the classic Windows.  I spend more time switching between class and Win8.    Worse, IE 10 is an unmitigated disaster - it constantly freezes up and will often crash.   I installed Firefox as a workaround.

    Its time to switch to the MacBook.

    No one forced anyone to do anything.  It's not new to Windows 8:  For 30 years now: if you erase your computer and reinstall your operating system (which is what a Refresh does), then you will have to reinstall your stuff.

    The only thing new is Windows 8 makes it easier to do that by having a button, rather than having to go find your factory reset CD and reboot into "Dell Recovery Mode' or whatever the manufacturer provided.

    Apparently it was so easy, that you didn't bother to read the giant, full-screen warning.  I'm sorry for your self-inflicted inconvenience, but you can take 10 minutes and reinstall your programs.  Be sure to read warnings in the future.

    Why did Windows 8 "Refresh" remove about 30 applcations from my PC?  Outlook is gone, as is Excel and Word.  I did a upgrade from 7 on one of my PC's and the new system had not even been operating long enough to create a "Restore" point.           

    It seems like a monopolizing move, forcing customers into a microsoft store that may not have the desired legal software to install. I'm surprised it has not created lawsuits to force change.

     

     

    Is English not your first language? What did you not understand by " Apps you install from DISKS or WEBSITES will be REMOVED" in the message box that fills your screen before you can continue?
