Windows 8 "refresh" removed applications

Why did Windows 8 "Refresh" remove about 30 applcations from my PC?  Outlook is gone, as is Excel and Word.  I did a upgrade from 7 on one of my PC's and the new system had not even been operating long enough to create a "Restore" point.

Hi Rodgerr,

I can imagine how frustrating it could be when most of the applications have been removed on the computer.

Since, you have refreshed the PC; all the applications installed will be removed.

The apps that came with your PC or you installed from Windows Store will be reinstalled, but any apps you installed from other websites and DVDs will be removed. You'll find a list of the removed apps on your desktop after refreshing your PC.

I would recommend you to reinstall all the applications on windows 8 to work.

    Well guys it seems that I have been led down the prim row path as well. Very Very very misleading information on the refresh of windows 8 professional.

    REFRESH is a bad word and implies a quick fix to errors that have cropped up in the OS not a complete reinstall of the OS.

    Screwed me up royally here on a Sunday night at 12 midnight. Need to work in the morning so now it is 3 AM and still loading my software.

    Hey Microsoft I am going to send you a bill for my time. I make $125 / hour so expect a bill for 4 hours at least.

    You Jerks should warn users before you stick it to them then laugh at our stupidity.

    FIX IT!

    I had to reinstall my soundcard too.

    I am also having this problem, and so I have no sound until I figure out how to do it.

    The wording on the refresh feature needs to give a clear warning that you will lose your programs, all the saved variables for those programs, and possibly even your installed hardware like the sound card.

    The same thing happened to me. This was immediately after initial install when Win 8 ran into a problem. Wouldn't it have made since the install procedure would create a restore point at the end of the install? Especially when it said it would not affect my files and settings. Since when does "System Refresh" imply the removal of all of the apps you have downloaded and installed including MS office. With all of the experience and effort put into this and previous MS operating systems there is no excuse for such shoddy and misleading wording and total lack of warning of the true affect of running a System Refresh. The effort, the time, the expense, of rebuilding this due to MS incompetence is inexcusable.

    I was supposed to have restore points from Win7 installation. Sadly after upgrading to Win8 it seems they are gone... Anyway, all my precious software and configs are lost now, and I still think Win8 could be a good think.

    Going to make a fresh new installation on a faster HDD and looking to re-install one-by-one all the stuff I need. Since I bought the Win8 Pro upgrade I think I'm going to re-install win7 and then re-upgrade it with win8 code, hope it's going to work.
