Windows 8 "refresh" removed applications

Why did Windows 8 "Refresh" remove about 30 applcations from my PC?  Outlook is gone, as is Excel and Word.  I did a upgrade from 7 on one of my PC's and the new system had not even been operating long enough to create a "Restore" point.

Hi Rodgerr,

I can imagine how frustrating it could be when most of the applications have been removed on the computer.

Since, you have refreshed the PC; all the applications installed will be removed.

The apps that came with your PC or you installed from Windows Store will be reinstalled, but any apps you installed from other websites and DVDs will be removed. You'll find a list of the removed apps on your desktop after refreshing your PC.

I would recommend you to reinstall all the applications on windows 8 to work.

    I want to add my support to this comment! I am reading this page because I was considering a "Refresh" due to a driver install problem. Having upgraded from Windows 7, with no ability to replace some of the PROGRAMS - not APPS - I think the warning should be in BIG LETTERS with much more explanation.

    The very fact that I am reading the posts on this site is proof positive that I was unsure of the meaning. Being all but dissertation from a Doctorate, I would hope my reading skills are not too far below average.

    Didn't the Advanced Startup Settings explicitly state in both the name and the details that our personal files would NOT be tampered with? Even your own product, Microsoft Office, is wiped off the hard drive.           

    Outlook is NOT a "personal" file.....

    Didn't the Advanced Startup Settings explicitly state in both the name and the details that our personal files would NOT be tampered with? Even your own product, Microsoft Office, is wiped off the hard drive. I did this to fix a nagging error, but no error is worth hours and hours of reinstalling apps and programs. At LEAST fix the description. This is one of the things that makes me utterly regret getting Windows 8.
