Windows 8 "refresh" removed applications

Why did Windows 8 "Refresh" remove about 30 applcations from my PC?  Outlook is gone, as is Excel and Word.  I did a upgrade from 7 on one of my PC's and the new system had not even been operating long enough to create a "Restore" point.

Hi Rodgerr,

I can imagine how frustrating it could be when most of the applications have been removed on the computer.

Since, you have refreshed the PC; all the applications installed will be removed.

The apps that came with your PC or you installed from Windows Store will be reinstalled, but any apps you installed from other websites and DVDs will be removed. You'll find a list of the removed apps on your desktop after refreshing your PC.

I would recommend you to reinstall all the applications on windows 8 to work.

    "There was certainly not sufficient warning that so much would be removed - in fact it said that it would not affect my files and settings. I had to reinstall my soundcard too. Windows 8 is becoming a total nightmare. I ran the upgrade advisor and none of the problems I have encountered were predicted - if they had been I wouldn't have bothered until it was far more stable than it appears to be."

     

     

     Totally agree. I need to try refreshing win8 too (Win7 Ult - Win8 Pro upgrade) since tiles stopped working and many other things went bad after no more than 48h use. Now I lost many months of installed programs, also lot of configured stuff I used to work from home with University servers, all gone. And the "Removed Applications" list sounds like a joke, how the **** should I use this damn list? Does really not exist a way to "restore" this detrimental and useless refresh operation I did??????????

     

    Seriously, I've been using Windows from 90ies to seven edition, and I have never seen such an underestimated dangerous and misleading function like "system refresh".

    You're stuck unless you had restore points enabled - I didn't have then, I have now!

    Thanks for the reply.  I am sorry to say your answer does not help.  Please tell me why Outlook, Excel and Msword were removed.  I greatly regret upgrading to Windows 8.  I have used XP for 10 years without any problems.

    What does " I would recommend you to reinstall all the applications on windows 8 to work." mean. exactly?  After what happened I an too scared to reset, refrest, install, uninstall, fix or do anything else in case I lose any more settings etc.
