Windows 8 "refresh" removed applications

Indeed there is no way im going to "Refresh" after reading this. And here we go again Microsoft giving us another option that is completely unnecessary trying to deal with issue we all have. Most of our issues are "MINOR" like sound not working, program not starting, yet time and again we only get a few steps of help then the final "You might have to Refresh or System Restore." 

I have an issue with not being able to set a default browser like IE, now I know its probably something in the registry a few lines got changed but the help get here is "Do a system Refresh." Completely unnecessary.  I have programs on here that there is no way I would want to go back and reinstall, not only that but drivers too? Plus there is no guarantee your issue is going to be fixed after all that.

After reading about all these issues, I have decided NOT to refresh my Win 8 OS. The only issues I have at the moment are the Win 8 apps, so I will just not attempt to use them. I have Office, AutoCAD, and engineering and surveying programs installed, along with many other programs for my work. It would take MANY hours to redo all of this so I guess I will just not try to use the Mail, social media, and other personal Apps that aren't currently working. The only concern I have is if my Windows Update isn't working properly (when I try to access Windows update, it gives the same error). Can anyone tell me if the Update will still be updating automatically?

I did not expect to find all my programmes removed.  MS Office, Dream weaver... with all of my clients FTP settings, Photoshop, and many more!  I am totally distraught, my whole business system removed because someone had renamed Programmes to Apps.  There was no warning message saying " Windows is about to remove Dreamweaver"!  Or any message reminding me that "Windows is about to remove Office, Do you want to continue"! Oh no!

Apps are things you download on an iphone or android.  Who decided to rename programmes apps?  This is very very misleading!  When it said refresh I thought the computer was simply going to restart.  One hour later and my business has come to a halt.  It will take weeks to put all my programmes and settings back.

And when I really really need System restore I find that all the restore points have been removed!!

What gives them the right to remove my programmes, I have paid for each and every one of them.  I have been robbed!  Robbed of my own software and many hours work putting things back into place.  Windows really needs some proper competition and be more customer focused.

Can I claim recompense for all of this inconvenience?  Because I am furious that a company can seemingly steal from me and many others.  Do I go to the police and report this?  Because Bill Gates would go to the Police if someone had stolen from him!
