The surefire fix is just take a screen copy (by using MWSNAP or similar).

But I agree it is bad engineering by Microsoft.

All three computers link through a Homegroup. All have different passwords. Setting up my Homegroup was a testing experience.

Thanks Gerry - quite a lot to think about there. We all seem to have a number of computers which (I assume) we want to link normally in a network and I guess we all need an easy sign on for each machine which, in my case, would like to be without the need for any password at all. For the others who want a password I would guess you would want the same for each computer but I may be wrong! Lots to think about on a cold Sunday morning upcoming! Thanks.

Passwords are causing problems for users upgrading to Windows 10. I do not know the answer as to whether a "no password" password is acceptable when upgrading to Windows 10.

My laptop with Windows 7 had a password and when I upgraded to Windows 10 the user account was changed from a Local Account to a Microsoft Account . My password no longer worked. I managed to regain control by following the "Forgotten Password" routine from another computer and changed the password using a pin number which gave me access to the newly upgraded copy of Windows 10. I was then able to access my original Local account.

This desktop computer has Windows 7 and  has a "no password" password. I have no immediate plans to upgrade the computer to Windows 10. I also have a Windows 8 desktop which has a Microsoft Account. Again I have no immediate plans to upgrade it to Windows 10.

If you decide to upgrade to Windows 10 make sure that you can access your Microsoft Account from another computer and can receive email on the second computer. You need that to be able to obtain the pin number from Microsoft.
