The title pretty much sums up my issue. I have never been able to access it since I upgraded, so I'm not sure where something went wrong. I don't really know how to go about fixing this issue, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help!

Hi Ben,

I will certainly help you with this issue.

1.      What happens while you try to access windows store?

2.      Are you getting any error code or error message? If yes, what is the complete error message?

3.      Are you using a Microsoft account or local account?

Let’s follow these methods and check if it helps.

**Method 1:**Check if the date, time and time zone are set according to your time and time zone.

Follow these steps to set the date and time:

a. Press Windows key + C on your keyboard to show the Charms bar.

b. Type “Date and Time” in the charms bar search.

c. Click Change date and time button (To change the time zone click on time zone tab).

d. Click Apply and Ok to save the date and time.

Method 2: Clear the store cache and check.

a. Press "Windows key + R".

b. Type wsreset.exe and click OK.

Method 3: Disable the proxy server and check.

a. Open Internet Explorer ****b. Click Tools and then click Internet Options. ****c. Then click the Connections tab.

d. Then click the LAN Settings button.

e. Then Uncheck the option which reads” Use a proxy server for your LAN” ****f. Click apply and then ok.

Method 4: Perform clean boot and check.

a) Press the ‘Windows + R’ key on the keyboard.

b) In the ‘Run’ windows type ’MSCONFIG’ and click ‘Ok’.

c) On the ‘General’ tab, click to select the option ‘Selective startup’, and then click to clear the option Load startup items check box.

d) On the ‘Services’ tab, click to select the ‘Hide all Microsoft services’ check box, and then click ‘Disable all’.

e) On the ‘Startup’ tab, click ‘**Open Task Manager’.**In the Task Manager window under startup tab, right click on each startup item which are enabled and select ‘**Disable’.**f) Click ‘OK’, and then click Restart.

I would suggest you to follow the step 2 from the following article to determine what is causing the problem.

How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

Note: After you have finished troubleshooting, follow the step 3 to reset the computer to start as usual.

Method 5: Download and run the app troubleshooter and check.

I have also had this problem for a few weeks and tried all the suggestions in the forums.  I then noticed that store broker was using a lot of cpu and found this solution

STORE BROKER (WSHOST.EXE) CONSUME A LARGE AMOUNT OF CPU

by ADMIN on MARCH 30, 2014 in OSUNCATEGORIZEDWINDOWS with 9 COMMENTS

Store Broker (wshost.exe)  is a Microsoft process and should not consume more than 1% of CPU. After installing Windows it consume a low ammount of CPU but after that you install application Store Broker (wshost.exe process) may take a large ammount of CPU, so I will try to give you a trick to solve this problem.

WHY CAUSE STORE BROKER HIGHT CPU USSAGE?

The process look like:

![](http://howtofix.pro/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/store-broker-high-cpu-usage.jpg)

Usually problem is caused by:

  • after installing some applications;
  • maybe Kaspersky Antivirus???

HOW TO FIX HIGH CPU USAGE BY STORE BROKER:

Open Task Manager (CTRL + Shift + ESC) >> Go to Processes tab and then kill StoreandStore Brokersprocesses:

  1. Right-Click on Store process >> End Task;
  2. Right-Click on Store Brokers >> End Task;

Then you have to go to:

C:\Users\(Your User Account)\AppData\Local\Packages\WinStore_xxxxxxxxxxxxx\LocalState

xxxxxxxxxxxxx = a random string – it is different to another pc;

  1. Rename folder called Cache into CacheOld.
  2. Create an empty folder with name Cache

That’s all. If you want to revert changes just delete Cache and Rename CacheOld into Cache.

CONCLUSIONS:

This method to resolve Store Broker (wshost.exe) high CPU usage will not affect in any way Store or installing and using application from Windows 8 Store.

PS: Tested on windows 8.1 but should work on any other version like Windows 8.

PS2: Credits to google, microsoft forums;

Now my store works fine.

It's something fonts related.

Coincidentally someone else has just claimed that registering actxprxy.dll  is a fix...

Also claimed that there was a duplicate post here but I couldn't find it (not that that would be conclusive proof that it doesn't exist).

FYI

    I have same problem.  None of the pre-installed apps work (e.g. games, store, etc.).  They just get the wait cursor and nothing happens.

    Am I the only one who didn't upgrade but bought a new PC with windows 8? (My old PC was 7 years old). I cannot access store app at all either, nor the 'Change PC Settings' button. Haven't gotten the chance to see what other things aren't working yet either. I've tried so many solutions and none of them worked, only thing I haven't tried was restoring my computer to factory settings - which wouldn't really bother me since it's new and I haven't got much on it, but I don't know the consequences of doing that would be lol.

    You can try a "System Refresh" since it's a new computer - you won't have to worry about files being lost, or older applications being deleted or deactivated. I had Office 2010 before I tried a system refresh, but after the refresh the suite was deactivated and put into the "windows.old" file where I'm unable to reactivated it. Be careful if you have other programs installed - when you begin the refresh process it will search for installed "apps" and if your app is not in the Metro Start Page it will not show up in the list of apps  that will be removed. BACK UP EVERYTHING!! :)

    I’m with James MacGowan on this one.  When all else failed, I tried a “System Refresh” and got all my “Start Screen” apps working like they’re supposed to.  Admittedly, the process did remove a lot of my applications such as McAfee Antivirus software and Microsoft Office Home and Student 2010, plus a lot of other stuff (too numerous to mention) but it does give you a complete list of the apps it’s removed.

    I then had the task of reinstalling the things it had removed, one by one, but on the plus side, this gave me the chance to carry out a process of elimination.

    Incidentally, like James, I was concerned I’d lost my Office 2010, which came preinstalled on my Dell computer when I bought it four months ago, but I’m glad to say I was able to log on to Dell’s website, enter my Service Tag and Product Key and download the software direct from Microsoft, free of charge.

    I’ve reinstalled practically everything on my upgraded Windows 8 machine now, apart from McAfee (which I’m deliberately leaving until last).  At the moment my computer is being protected by Windows Defender, which will suffice until I’ve sorted the problem for once and for all.

    Like others have already stated, I’m inclined to agree that the problem lies with McAfee and they need to sort this thing asap.

    In the meantime, here’s how to carry out a “System Refresh” (not to be confused with a “System Restore”!)

    To refresh your PC:-

    1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, then tap "Change PC settings".

    (If you're using a mouse, point to the top-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, click Settings, then click "Change PC settings".)

    1. Under "PC settings", tap or click "General".
    2. Under "Refresh your PC without affecting your files", tap or click "Get started".
    3. Follow the instructions on the screen.

    Remember, even though it says “Refresh your PC without affecting your files” it WILL remove some of your apps (presumably the ones it suspects of causing the problem) so as James said, it’s advisable to BACK UP all **** your files BEFORE you proceed, just to be on the safe side.
