How do I get my Google Calendar events to show in the Calendar app in Windows 8?

    Many Thanks for this info. I now have a tile on Metro which opens my Google Calendar directly.

    Works very swiftly too!

    Now I can ditch the ungainly Outlook calendar completely.

    I have a Birthday calendar, holidays calendar, sunrise/sunset times calendar, day number & week number calendar linked into Google calendar, so it is feature rich. Check out calendar lab too they have a 'year at a view' add-on which will display a selected year-at-a-view and also a multiple time zone add-on which allows you to make a selection of needed time zones and will display their times relative to your 'home' timezone (useful if like me you correspond with people all over the world).

    I am switching to Google as my main email provider too as their system is more feature rich, easier to use, less buggy and, frankly. prettier! So I will be using the info you provided to enable a tile for direct access to my Gmail account.

    That's the way to go- make all your own tiles.  You can even put icons on them.

    Here's how my Metro UI looks (below); only 10 of the visible 49 tiles are Windows apps, the rest are mine.

    As for Gmail- it has its flaws too.  I use a dozen or more webmail services, for different purposes. So I'm never stuck when one goes down for hours...

    Will you point me in the correct direction to make my own tiles?  Seems where I looking steps are missing.  I am so feed up with this corporate tug and pull, I need a solution.  Microsoft and Google are not going to work together.  PERIOD.

    There is a way to do it manually, with some possible customization of the tile graphic, which is what I did a couple of years ago. The instructions are now hard to find, but start here:

    Seems like most people are now using freeware called OblyTile to do this now, but the old-fashioned manual method worked fine for me, before I abandoned the Metro screen entirely and just went back to using Desktop. Google around a bit, and you may find more specific/detailed instructions for manual tile creation.
