How to solve, "Reboot and Select proper Boot device"

This keeps showing up when I turn on my computer and I cannot resume.

"Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key"

This shows up again after I press a key.

This happened when I connected the master plug part of the ATA Cable to my hard disk because I saw that it was connected to the slave part of the ATA Cable. I din't meddle with the jump block because I didn't know what to do to this.

When I open my computer I saw this problem.

I connected back the slave part of the ATA of my hard disk to see if I undo the problem but when I open my computer, still this problem shows up.

What can I do. My HDD is Hitachi, 80GB, 7200RPM and this is only one HDD in my computer.

I also have a question.

What is a Slave and a Master Drive?

What's their difference?

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft community.

I understand that whenever you start the computer you see the message “"Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key"

Usually this error message occurs if in the BIOS, booting is set as to start from CD Rom or floppy drive as first boot device. Where as you are trying to boot from the Hard disk.

Go into BIOS and change the Drive Boot Order so that the Hard Drive comes first as a boot priority. You should be able to boot into Windows normally after you save it to that configuration.

Note: Modifying BIOS/complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring of BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Modifications of the settings are at your own risk.

For help with the BIOS settings, refer to the computer manual or contact the manufacturer.

I hope that you tried to follow suggestion provided in the previous post.

If it does not help, I would suggest you to contact your motherboard's manufacturer for further assistance.

Uhm.. Excuse me if it's wrong section to Post my Question but;

I am having the same issue but the thing is happening when I do change it myself, BIOS Priority to Read my DVD RW as a First.

I Want to Format My Computer, and Already have tried with 5 Different Windows 7 DVD(s) but still isn't working..

I am getting that Message every time I do Restart.. "Reboot and Select proper Boot device or Insert Boot Media in selected Boot device and press a key"

Very annoying..

Gotta inform you that it does only not read a Windows 7 DVDs so far..

So far, Only one time i did try to change my DVD while a Black Screen were up and a message keeps annoying me.. to another CD (Normal Windows XP), and It did Work..

Interesting but yes, that message gone and it started a Format Settings on.

But All i wanna do is; to format my Computer with a Windows 7 Not XP Professional..

Any idea what's going on?

The only problem u hava is that the partition on the drive was INACTIVE. the only way to fix this error problem : Step 1 : hookup ur problem drive on another good working pc, startup that pc and reformatt ur drive, normal format for regular drives, quick format for ssd drives, STEP2 : go to drive management, NEXT IS VERY IMPORTANT right click on the drive u formatted and SET AS ACTIVE , STEP3 , copy the windows installation files to the just formatted drive. turn off computer, put ur drive with installation files back in the "non-working" pc that has the " reboot and select proper .... " error; switch on pc , and voila windows setup starts normally and you can install it again

I used Parted Magic to set the EFI Partition to "boot". This did the Job.
