Very irritating indeed. Copy and Paste works well for a (short) while after reboot but not thereafter. MSFT totally silent on this as far as I can tell even though this is an essential feature for me at least. Given beta time plus ~6mo since rollout and no progress I guess this is not to be fixed soon?
Copy and Paste Feature Not Working in Windows 8
Hi,
This is probably the wrong forum to post this question in. But I am running a Windows 8 Pro 64bit machine, and I am experiencing problems with the Copy, Cut and Paste feature in windows explorer, where I try to copy a directory or file from one location to another but it does not work. I do have permission rights. Is this a bug in the operating system?

2013-04-24T09:07:26+00:00 It seems after some research that the very basic computer requirement of copying files has been rather overlooked by windows 8, despite the hype based on the windows 8 testing it was probably assumed after all these years that the copying procedure would of course work successfully. After purchasing a new computer with windows 8 I can't copy my backed up files to my new pc. Even subdirectory by subdirectory copying fails to copy all files and folders. Multiple explorer windows helps a little copying but still doesn't come close to completion. If it wasn't for the fact I purchased a touch screen to allow the kids to take advantage of touch technology I would be uninstalling windows and 8 and revert to the previous version which seems to be about the only decent version since xp days. I seriously hope Microsoft manage to produce some updates for this very basic feature sooner rather than later, but after contacting windows support and being referred to my computer manufacturer, I feel more disappointed than usual with windows. Just lucky I didn't assume my backup files copied ok. Lets all hope windows fixes all of the windows 8 issues ASAP

2013-04-24T03:11:12+00:00 I have had the same problem on Dell XPS 12 running Windows 8 Pro since I purchased it a couple of months ago. Seems to be some really bad race condition bug in Windows, copy-paste only works consistently if one consciously slows down and does a very deliberate and slow Copy/Paste. Otherwise its a hit and miss. Running sfc /scannow did not find any integrity violations.
Dell XPS 12 is one of the few devices designed to take advantage of Windows 8 but with bugs like this I can see why Windows 8 adoption is so slow. I wouldn't recommend anyone to upgrade until this is fixed.

2013-04-21T21:49:30+00:00 Since i got my new Dell laptop with win 8, the cut and paste using the mouse works on the second copy, on 1st copy when i paste nothing gets pasted so i go again, copy and it works second time. I noticed it works 1st time if i used CTRL C and V. Never had this issue with previous windows..
Me again, actually i noticed the following, when i cut / or copy and then go start MS Word and paste nothing gets pasted, when i copy again and paste it works. If i opened MS Word 1st, then go copy and paste it works fine from all applications 1st time, is this normal, or there is a setting where it keeps copied stuff available to all applications?
did you try
In the Command prompt window, type**"sfc /scannow"**
