Old Title: when I move the mouse around the right hand side bar keeps appearing, when I don't want it to.
I recently bought a new computer with Windows 8 and have managed to work with it OK. The thing is that when I move the mouse around, the right hand sidebar with the Search, Share, Start, Devices and Settings buttons (and the date and time, bottom left), keeps appearing. It is so frustrating as I keep having to click to get rid of it. Ironically, when I am ready to close the computer down, I have to fiddle around with the mouse trying to get the damn bar to appear so that I can get the settings button to shut it down. Are there any solutions for this?

OMG, when I pay hundreds of my hard-earned dollars, especially in this economy, I expect to customize my product after purchasing. Did Microsoft have regular people try Win 8 for awhile before releasing it?
Got it!!! Its simple, go to control panel, synaptics touchpad and disable side swipe function, simples. it was really beginning to annoy me.

This issue was driving me crazy with my new week old inspiron 7720 windows 8. I even spent time on the phone with tech support who suggested using an external mouse. I followed your suggestion to disable side swipe function and it worked perfectly. Thank you.

Microsoft being the main contractor, the company who offer the equipment to the customer, are obliged to vet all extra equipments they propose to include in the final product. Clearly they have completely failed in respect of this Synaptic Device. It is a Microsoft responsibility without question.
Remember, very few home users have your knowledge but they do have the right to be sold equipment which is fit for purpose.

Microsoft are just "side-stepping" this annoying issue with their "the charms bar helps you......" statement. Rubbish!! This is just an oversight by Microsoft when designing the Charms Bar. Do Microsoft use Windows 8? Doesn't the constantly appearing Charms Bar drive THEM mad??
I must spend more than half my time on my laptop, double clicking on the screen to GET RID OF the Charms Bar - only temporarily. It's an absolute NIGHTMARE when on ebay and QVC websites - it pops up every few seconds.
Microsoft should enable controlled access to open the Charms Bar. A "double click" on the far right edge to open the Charms Bar would be ideal for me. Most days I only need the Charms Bar to Power Off. Don't use it at all really, so for me "the charms bar doesn't help me!!
I doubt whether Microsoft reads all these "Windows 8 user complaints". With the next Windows "Update", there should be an option to choose to just "double or even treble click right edge IF you need the Charms Bar", otherwise it should not open......PLEEEEZ.
