Old Title: when I move the mouse around the right hand side bar keeps appearing, when I don't want it to.
I recently bought a new computer with Windows 8 and have managed to work with it OK. The thing is that when I move the mouse around, the right hand sidebar with the Search, Share, Start, Devices and Settings buttons (and the date and time, bottom left), keeps appearing. It is so frustrating as I keep having to click to get rid of it. Ironically, when I am ready to close the computer down, I have to fiddle around with the mouse trying to get the damn bar to appear so that I can get the settings button to shut it down. Are there any solutions for this?

Got it!!! Its simple, go to control panel, synaptics touchpad and disable side swipe function, simples. it was really beginning to annoy me.

This issue was driving me crazy with my new week old inspiron 7720 windows 8. I even spent time on the phone with tech support who suggested using an external mouse. I followed your suggestion to disable side swipe function and it worked perfectly. Thank you.

easier for who am on here with this new puter to see how to roll this windows 8 back to windows 7 this is not a user friendly system it totally is dreadful and i absoooooolutly hate it had a geek roll my other windows 8 back guess i will be taking this 700 buck machine in on monday have them do this again shame on you microsoft for making a sub par operating system count me in as a totally hate this system and it needs to be overhauled .... hate the look thank gods for windows shell hate the options no one ever thought this thru dont worry haters dont bother giving a reply i wont look dont care this is my right to say this system is horrid...

No one here trying to assist those with complaints, especially those with specific complaints, are 'haters'. They are trying to do what the forums like this one were setup for and provide those with issues viable fixes or work-arounds that remedy the issues presented.
You are correct, you have a 'right' to say this system is horrid. Someone else can ask you why you feel this way - and this is what I am doing.
Why - specifically - do you feel this way?
The only thing you mentioned, and truly I believe that I am pulling this out of your post properly, "You feel Windows 8.1 is not user friendly due to the look, although you can deal with the desktop mode."
Do you utilize the "Windows 8/8.1 Apps" from the Microsoft Store? I see no reason you have to deal with the modern UI interface, the Start Screen menu, the Charms, etc. if that is your choice. The options are readily available to use so you do not have to deal with such things and have been spelled out many times.
Additionally - why are you not purchasing the system with the operating system you desire from the start (Windows 7 I assume from your post)? They are more than readily available for purchase from the big manufacturers (Dell, Lenovo, HP, Gateway, etc.) - so not getting what you want from the beginning, especially the second time around, seems like a lack of effort and forethought on your part. Perhaps I have peaked your curiosity on how you might be able to utilize the Windows 8.1 system without being overly bothered by the modern UI interface you seem to be taken aback by. There is a discussion that can assist you, with a minimal amount of effort and time on your part, with making Windows 8.1 look/feel more like the previous editions of Windows you are comparing it with (well, back to a point - there are even older versions that looked more similar, but that would be a digression on my part.)

Otherwise - I highly suggest that instead of taking the machine in to have Windows 7 installed on it, you take it back and get your money back. Then go out and purchase what you want from the beginning. A little research and effort on your part goes a long way. A computer is not a minor purchase as it intertwines with much of daily life in these times and it is not something I think should just be bought without forethought and planning.
