Old Title: when I move the mouse around the right hand side bar keeps appearing, when I don't want it to.
I recently bought a new computer with Windows 8 and have managed to work with it OK. The thing is that when I move the mouse around, the right hand sidebar with the Search, Share, Start, Devices and Settings buttons (and the date and time, bottom left), keeps appearing. It is so frustrating as I keep having to click to get rid of it. Ironically, when I am ready to close the computer down, I have to fiddle around with the mouse trying to get the damn bar to appear so that I can get the settings button to shut it down. Are there any solutions for this?

OMG, when I pay hundreds of my hard-earned dollars, especially in this economy, I expect to customize my product after purchasing. Did Microsoft have regular people try Win 8 for awhile before releasing it?
Got it!!! Its simple, go to control panel, synaptics touchpad and disable side swipe function, simples. it was really beginning to annoy me.

This issue was driving me crazy with my new week old inspiron 7720 windows 8. I even spent time on the phone with tech support who suggested using an external mouse. I followed your suggestion to disable side swipe function and it worked perfectly. Thank you.

and the truth is that it is the worst kernel stability when using your programs that worked fine on Windows 7. Everything crashes.
That's not my experience at all. I've been running Windows 8 since it
was released, and I never see crashes.
Even Notepad has taken 15 seconds to open or crashed the system.
As an experiment, I just opened Notepad here (with close to 20 other
programs already open). It took two seconds.
They will blame the 3rd party that the software that works great on previous OS works but causes instability in Win8. It is the worst OS to date.
Not my experience at all. I have no instability and I like it fine.

job in making us need to.
Nevertheless, as far as I'm concerned, it's no big deal to use such a
program and since they easily fix the problems, I'm happy with Windows
8.
I should not have to pay extra fees, monthly, or one time rates, to have the computer work the way it should have out of the box.
I agree with you again. We shouldn't have to. However we do not have
to; you can use a free utility like ClassicShell, or do as I do, and
choose to not worry about paying the small sum of $4.99 US for Start8.
