What is causing my videos to be choppy and flicker?

I have created numerous movie maker projects without any issue in the past. Yesterday I created a project which includes both photos and video clips. Everything played fine. I saved the project in order that I could burn it to CD. But once saved, the videos included in the project are choppy and flicker. Did I miss some kind of change? Can anyone help?

Thank you for the information above but I don't understand any of it. I was running Movie Maker 2011 when my issue started. One of your techs suggested I upgrade to Movie Maker 2012 and that only made things worse by causing all my previous projects that included videos to flicker as well. I have no idea how to uninstall and reinstall anything and have no intention on trying unless I have very good step by step instructions. And no one has ever given me any help in that way. I am the only user on my laptop so don't understand why I would set up a 'new user account'. I did check my resolution and it is set to 1366 X 768.

My question prior to your last response was to the user who said she was able to do an update that fixed her problem. I just wanted to know the steps she took to fix her problem.

Hi Lynnette,

Sorry to hear you are still having the video problems.

Just wanted to let you know my video issues seem to be fixed with Windows Movie Maker.

I recently made a new project and short video.

When I opened Movie Maker, Windows Live 2012 automatically downloaded an update.

I let it run, and Movie Maker restarted when the update finished.

When I finished my movie project and saved it as a WMA video file it was totally fine.

No flickering or colour distortion like before.

This may not help you as my computer uses a Nvidia graphics card, and yours is Intel based.

I know its frustrating and you have probably heard this many times.

But have you run your Windows, and Intel updates recently?

To manually find and run Windows Update on your computer

Control Panel\System and Security\Windows Update

Also try opening Movie Maker and see if it automatically runs the update like it did for me.

The Intel website will automatically detect what you need

I'm sorry to hear that the steps we provided didn't work. When you said that your movies do not play correctly in Movie Maker, may I know what exactly happens when you try to do so?

Furthermore, kindly gather a new set of log files so that we can further investigate on this issue. Please upload it in the private message area then inform us once you're done.

Hello,

Yes my movies played correctly in Windows Live Movie Maker. So I did the Uninstall suggested above. That made things worse instead of better. Now my movies DO NOT PLAY CORRECTLY in Windows Live Movie Maker!!! This really upsets me. All my old/previous movie maker projects no longer play correctly either - I spent hours creating some of those!

This cannot just be happening to me and there must be a solution for this.

I did not even try to save my Windows Live Movie Maker project because now all my projects have choppy videos! I do not expect them to save and not be choppy.

Hello Lynnette,

Thank you for getting back to us. Just to clarify, when you said "No the movies do no play properly on media player.", you are referring to the finished movie file, is this correct?

I also want to clarify if the original files used play properly on your Windows Media Player before you edit it on Movie Maker?

If in case the unedited videos play properly on Windows Movie Maker, and the issue is isolated to the saving process, then I strongly suggest you to do a clean installation using the latest version of Movie Maker. Please follow the steps below on how to clean install Windows Essentials:

1. Uninstall Windows Essentials.
1. Delete the following folders:
- C:\Program Files\Windows Live
- C:\Program Files\Common Files\Windows Live
Note: If there are more than one Program Files folder upon opening C drive, then double click on Program Files x86 instead.

3. Reinstall Windows Essentials using this link.

Hello,

With regard to your first comments regarding file size of my original videos, I have reviewed and compared the size over and over again. And this last project in Windows Live Movie Maker is small compared to many in the past. **Also, I keep all my past Windows Live Movie Maker projects. So I have saved some of those previous projects again. And the result is choppy videos. They were not choppy the first time I saved them.**So that tells me the problem is not with my Windows Live Move Maker project (because my videos are not choppy in the project). But the issue is caused during the save process.

I tried the suggested ALT+F and then I in Windows Live Movie Maker. The Window below is what opens. I selected all items on the left, i.e. General, etc. There is no Advanced option under any of them. I tried doing this while having a completed project open as well as when the program is open to start a new project.

FYI - I am running Windows 7 (64 bit) and my Windows Live Movie Maker version is 2011 (Build 15.4.3555.0308).

Help please.......
