What is causing my videos to be choppy and flicker?

I have created numerous movie maker projects without any issue in the past.  Yesterday I created a project which includes both photos and video clips.  Everything played fine.  I saved the project in order that I could burn it to CD.  But once saved, the videos included in the project are choppy and flicker.  Did I miss some kind of change?  Can anyone help?

Thank you for the information above but I don't understand any of it.  I was running Movie Maker 2011 when my issue started.  One of your techs suggested I upgrade to Movie Maker 2012 and that only made things worse by causing all my previous projects that included videos to flicker as well.  I have no idea how to uninstall and reinstall anything and have no intention on trying unless I have very good step by step instructions.  And no one has ever given me any help in that way.  I am the only user on my laptop so don't understand why I would set up a 'new user account'.  I did check my resolution and it is set to 1366 X 768.

My question prior to your last response was to the user who said she was able to do an update that fixed her problem.  I just wanted to know the steps she took to fix her problem.

Hi Lynnette,

Sorry to hear you are still having the video problems.

Just wanted to let you know my video issues seem to be fixed with Windows Movie Maker.

I recently made a new project and short video.

When I opened Movie Maker, Windows Live 2012 automatically downloaded an update.

I let it run, and Movie Maker restarted when the update finished.

When I finished my movie project and saved it as a WMA video file it was totally fine.

No flickering or colour distortion like before.

This may not help you as my computer uses a Nvidia graphics card, and yours is Intel based.

I know its frustrating and you have probably heard this many times.

But have you run your Windows, and Intel updates recently?

To manually find and run Windows Update on your computer

Control Panel\System and Security\Windows Update

Also try opening Movie Maker and see if it automatically runs the update like it did for me.

The Intel website will automatically detect what you need

    Hi LynnetteHay,

    Sorry for the delayed response. I have also been away.

    Basically my solution was to manually update my video card with the latest driver.

    Sometimes the computer manufacturer or Windows does this automatically.

    But by manually installing the latest driver software it fixed my problems.

    If you have a friend who is good with computers, maybe try get their help. The below fix is quite simple once you understand the process.

    There is no reference to Toshiba on the NVIDIA website link as your video card is not made by that computer manufacturer. Your video card (AKA graphics card, video adapter, etc) is the part in your computer that supports images. So if NVIDIA makes that part for your computer, you will need a NVIDIA software update. 

    For your computer specifications go to your:

    Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Device Manager

    Then click "Display Adapters" to see exactly what model of video card you have.

    For example mine is a GeForce 310M

    Control Panel -> System and Security -> System

    This will tell you your basic system info, and exactly what version of windows you have.

    Once you determine your exact video card model, go to the NVIDIA website (link below) and use the dropdown options to find the correct driver for your video card.

    Example my specs: GEForce - 300M series Notebooks (laptops) - Windows 7 64-bit

    Once you have the latest driver software, download and install.

    Then create a small test video with Windows Movie Maker to see if your problems are resolved.

    As mentioned the flickering and choppy video problem did happen again for me after I restarted my computer. But I resolved by just installing the NVIDIA driver again.

    Hello again - sorry didn't read this one before sending my last note.  My computer is Toshiba and when I review the information on the NVIDIA link, there is no compatibility reference to Toshiba.  I'm not real computer savvy so am concerned about downloading anything that may make things worse. 

    Also I do see your reference to the NVIDIA update through Windows Update.  What steps do you need to take to install that (simple step by step would be appreciated).

    Hello,

    Been away a while.  I have reviewed your message.  I need a little clarification please.  Are you saying you resolve your problem by using Freemake Video Converter?  If so, I was not able to resolve my problem using it.  If Freemake did not work for you, have you found any other resolution since the Jan. 23rd post?

    I found another temporary fix.

    I downloaded and installed the latest Nvidia video driver for my computer

    Even though this driver is already installed on my computer I still suffer the Movie Maker issues, after my computer is restarted. I usually shutdown my laptop when not in use.

    But if I install the same Nvidia driver again, and create a Movie Maker video file immediately after, it works. The video file is free of the distortion and flickering issues.

    I DO NOT uninstall anything. Just simply install the same Nvidia driver update file as usual.

    I also installed the below Nvidia update through Windows Update. So not sure if this is part of the problem. Windows update details below:

    nVidia - Graphics Adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.3, Other hardware - NVIDIA GeForce 310M

    Installation date: ‎7/‎01/‎2014 5:27 PM

    Installation status: Successful

    Update type: Optional

    nVidia Graphics Adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.3, Other hardware software update released in June, 2013
