What is causing my videos to be choppy and flicker?

I have created numerous movie maker projects without any issue in the past.  Yesterday I created a project which includes both photos and video clips.  Everything played fine.  I saved the project in order that I could burn it to CD.  But once saved, the videos included in the project are choppy and flicker.  Did I miss some kind of change?  Can anyone help?

Thank you for the information above but I don't understand any of it.  I was running Movie Maker 2011 when my issue started.  One of your techs suggested I upgrade to Movie Maker 2012 and that only made things worse by causing all my previous projects that included videos to flicker as well.  I have no idea how to uninstall and reinstall anything and have no intention on trying unless I have very good step by step instructions.  And no one has ever given me any help in that way.  I am the only user on my laptop so don't understand why I would set up a 'new user account'.  I did check my resolution and it is set to 1366 X 768.

My question prior to your last response was to the user who said she was able to do an update that fixed her problem.  I just wanted to know the steps she took to fix her problem.

Hi Lynnette,

Sorry to hear you are still having the video problems.

Just wanted to let you know my video issues seem to be fixed with Windows Movie Maker.

I recently made a new project and short video.

When I opened Movie Maker, Windows Live 2012 automatically downloaded an update.

I let it run, and Movie Maker restarted when the update finished.

When I finished my movie project and saved it as a WMA video file it was totally fine.

No flickering or colour distortion like before.

This may not help you as my computer uses a Nvidia graphics card, and yours is Intel based.

I know its frustrating and you have probably heard this many times.

But have you run your Windows, and Intel updates recently?

To manually find and run Windows Update on your computer

Control Panel\System and Security\Windows Update

Also try opening Movie Maker and see if it automatically runs the update like it did for me.

The Intel website will automatically detect what you need

    AVI has around 800 different file types, which did you use Samuel?

    Hi there

    I've had the same problem as you for about 3 years, and it seems that finally I've solved it.

    Try to convert the videos you want to use to AVI format. I hope that it'll solve it in your computer too. 

    Windows Live Movie Maker is having lots of problems due to lack of software updating, I hope they'll develop a new one very soon because we all love and use Movie maker.

    Hello - As part of the private message included in this string, on Oct.18,2013 it was suggested that I download Freemake and convert my videos.  So I did that and responded on Nov.28, 2013 that it made no difference.  So yes I did try converting my videos.  Also, B AU has found a workaround but also indicates it's not a good one.  At least that's what I read into B AU's message.  So basically what I'm hearing from you is that unless I can prove this is happening to someone else, the problem is solely with my computer.  Very interesting considering I had no trouble until I started my report a year ago and then worse yet when your team suggested I download Movie Maker 2012.

    Hello LynetteHay,

    It seems that this issue is still persistent from your end and as with what we have discussed before, we are unable to reproduce the same problem you are having. The actual video files that you have provided did not show the same symptoms that you were experiencing with your system. This is one way that we isolate the problem as typical issues with regard to video rendering (using software such as Movie Maker) can be attributed to the system specification of the machine that you are using.

    One thing that I did note of as I read the thread was that you and another forum user's (B AU) systems are both running 64-bit OS. We can assume that MOV files may have/show certain issues (like the flickering and choppiness you mentioned) when rendered in Movie Maker under this type of system but that is yet to be determined. Still, B AU was able to get around the problem by converting the MOV file into another format such as WMV or MP4 before feeding this in Movie Maker as well as re-update/re-install the VGA driver in their machine. You have stated before that your VGA driver is already updated but have you already tried converting your source file/s (MOV raw videos from your camera) into another format (either WMV or MP4) before feeding/opening these in your project file? If you haven't done so, please try this step and do provide some feedback regarding the results.
