lighting bolt and gear icon

My Nokia Lumia 920 shows the lightning bolt and gear icon. does not start and is frozen on that icon.

So lets try this and see if it helps.

Hard Reset using buttons:

Press and hold the Camera + Volume Down + Power until the phone vibrates. Then release the Power key and keep pressing the Camera + Volume Down for a few seconds.

A HAD SAME PROBLEM TOOK OUT MEMORY CARD ATTACHED TO LAPTOP AND PRESSED VOLUME <DOWN> AND POWER BUTTON AND IT CAME ON

I got this problem too. I tried the said suggestions but ain't working.
1. Connected to the laptop for device reboot tool.
2. Used power, volume down and camera buttons.
they both failed.

May someone please advise on which option to take?

HAHA! I just tried again and it worked. After I released the power button, I just did a 1-2-3 count and let go. I did have cogs yet again, but it was for about 1-2 minutes. Then the phone shut down on its own and finally came up on the "welcome to windows" screen. SUCCESS!!! Thanks man, and many thanks to JACK COOK! GET 'EM!

What am I not doing right because after doing everything you say, it's still not doing what you guys experienced? I want my phone back ☹️😔😒😏
