lighting bolt and gear icon

My Nokia Lumia 920 shows the lightning bolt and gear icon. does not start and is frozen on that icon.

So lets try this and see if it helps.

Hard Reset using buttons:

Press and hold the Camera + Volume Down + Power until the phone vibrates. Then release the Power key and keep pressing the Camera + Volume Down for a few seconds.

A HAD SAME PROBLEM TOOK OUT MEMORY CARD ATTACHED TO LAPTOP AND PRESSED VOLUME <DOWN> AND POWER BUTTON AND IT CAME ON

    This worked for me also. Thanks so much. Verizon told me to download some utility that was going to take a day or 2 to run. They told me to hold down the volume and power button.

    I just had this on a 928 running developer edition.  I did the "soft reset" even though the "slide down to turn off" doesn't come up. 

    Hold volumn down + middle button (power on button) for a little more than five seconds...reboots.
